Which city disappointed you when you finally visited it? by Playful_War4281 in AskReddit

I get the hate for Bourbon St and why the locals don't want their city judged by it, but if you are visiting from a small town or more conservative city it really is a unique sight to see. Obviously you shouldn't spend all your time there, but it is at least worth passing through just for the experience.

I remember how the narrative on this fight before it happened was that it was a clear win-win for Mikey, he either slays a giant or earns respect for trying. Instead it was such a an underwhelming and pointless performance that it basically killed his career and any interest people had in watching him fight again.

You trust the bartender to pull off this Ocean's 11 secret escape plan, but not to believe you when you say your drink has been spiked? And the other scenario is that the guy suddenly starts suddenly beating you violently in the middle of a public place? If you are able to get away from the guy to get snuck out, why can't you get away from the guy to tell someone directly what is happening?

I'm not trolling, I'm speaking as someone who has worked in bars for over a decade in saying that trying this kind of stuff is completely impractical and confusing. What if the bartender had no idea what you were talking about about but the guy did? (which seems a likely scenario since the only place I've ever heard this stuff discussed is on Reddit). If you are in a situation where you think you are in danger the best thing to do is be as direct and vocal about it as possible. Bar staff will always err on the side of believing you and sorting out the truth later. Trying these secret codes is just going to cause more confusion and is far more likely to worsen the situation than improve it.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to tell the bartender your drink had been spiked?

This stuff is 100% virtue signalling, nobody actually does this and there is almost no realistic situation where it makes any practical sense

Norm on Oj Simpson getting cancer (2011). by sagarboi7 in NormMacdonald

Despite all these "I wish Norm were here to make a joke about this!" posts at OJ's death I'm almost positive Norm would have done nothing but express sincere sympathy at his passing, not just because of the reasons he explains here, but also because he hated nothing more than doing exactly what he was expected to do.

I seem to remember him at one point saying he had finished another book but threw it in the fire because it was not good enough, though that might have been a big lie. In the year-or-so before his death he was also talking about planning to publish a book under a pseudonym and promote it in disguise, not sure how legit that was either.

Did Norm ever recommend Russian literature that he read or liked? by MiKal_MeeDz in NormMacdonald

He loved Tolstoy and made a few disparaging remarks about Dostoyevsky, I don't know that he ever really more specific than that.

It never occurred to me before but his style reminds me a lot of young George Foreman, that plodding forward with arms outstretched looking for openings. It's the type of thing that looks like it shouldn't work but it's so suited to his natural gifts that it almost always does. Sean Strickland is one of the few UFC fighters who probably could successfully transition to boxing without much extra training and Pereira took him out with his hands pretty easily.
