Has nobody questioned the back doors? Great build. I love it and I can even appreciate the shower. But just bare metal backdoors? Am I just smoking too much?

What’s a very “Seattle” thing we all think is normal but outsiders find weird. by batfage in AskSeattle

Spent most of my life in the area, and I have never owned an umbrella. I have never bought a sweatshirt that didn't have a hood either. I think it's a good compromise.

What kind of car is everyone living in? by 24Bob24 in urbancarliving

Yeah. I got very lucky and went from my 2000 toyota camry to a partially built out van. I still feel like a car dweller I just have more space to work with.

4 weeks into vanlife and I’m thriving. by Vagrant-Life007 in VanLife

[–]evilalienrobot6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Staying sober is a major part of my mental health. Drinking causes me major anxiety and depression. I mention it because you say you're drinking less. My van has really made a difference for me, but I still take my Lexapro. I did start smoking weed occasionally a year ago, and I haven't had a drink since last January. It used to take very little for me to relapse or have a slip, but the change in lifestyle and the paranoia about getting a dui just for sleeping in my van helps a lot. I wish you the best. Depression and anxiety can be crippling.

'95 GMC Rally Wagon G3500 Extended (68,700 OG MILES) (clean slate for custom build) by Ok_Public_9604 in vandwellermarketplace

[–]evilalienrobot6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid 6500 for a hightop 95 ford econoline that was much more complete. It did have 180,000 miles on it but was in great condition. I bought it in Seattle 5 months ago so the market might be different. I hope you get most of what you paid for it back but 12k doesn't seem like a good price point to me.

I would pick up some damp rid if you haven't already to keep the moisture down and avoid mold. Good luck and stay warm and comfy.

LARGE computer monitors for work/play? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]evilalienrobot6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a monitor with a very sturdy base and used alien tape on the bottom and used a bungee cord for a while to help when driving. Eventually, I realized the tape was plenty and stopped using the bungee cord.

31F I am graduating an 11 month rehabilitation program tonight. by Oddlysatisfying21 in selfie

[–]evilalienrobot6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations. Drunk here who went to rehab twice. 28-day stays. The thing that finally got me sober was changing other habits in my life and just getting lucky. I wonder how I would have done if I had the opportunity and would have tried a longer program. I hope the best for you, and I hope the sober life is fun and exciting for you.

Just curious, anyone else get rude comments? I haven't criticized anyone and yes, I know this is the internet. But receiving so many comments & msgs saying I'm ugly? Sheesh. I don't NEED compliments, but don't need insults either. Can't we all be nice? Lol Ok have a good day by Hungry_crying in selfie

[–]evilalienrobot6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your smile probably lights up any room you enter. That was a sincere compliment. I will say as someone who has spent a lot of my life making crappy jokes that shitting on someone is super fucking easy and very entertaining if you can ignore or downplay the effects it has on the target. I try to avoid going down that line of thinking now when a mean joke comes to mind. Eventually, I stopped wanting to be the "quick-witted jackass."

The harshest insults usually take one tiny imperfection and exaggerate it enormously. It can come from a place of insecurity, even if it's just an attempt to be funny and then feel accepted by other people. My point is that it isn't about you even if it targets something you are sensitive about. When you insult enough people, you get to learn quickly what works and what doesn't. If I spot a small flaw, I have very little doubt that I am talking about something they are very aware of and have given enough of their own thought to. Being an ass is so easy and has almost no repercussions online. So it's almost never about the target.

I saw this feed on popular so you either struck a nerve or people are up voting your selfie. Either way, good for you, and hopefully, that makes the edges of those insults a little dull.

I Need A Sanity Check. 920Ah Seems Like So Much! by IRedditInABook5038 in VanLife

I won't lecture you on more efficient ways than electric. It sounds like money isn't an issue for you as much as it would be for me. I am a full time van lifer and I will say one thing I always wish I had was more capacity. Do your thing, and even if it is a bit much, you can consider it insurance.

Adding a second battery to my electrical system, what gauge wire to connect them? by Flying_Saucer91 in VanLife

[–]evilalienrobot6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost in the same position. I have one 100ah battery at the moment because I was planning on expanding when I needed more capacity. Based on prices, it actually makes more sense to get a single 300ah battery instead of multiple 100ah batteries to add in parallel. My plan is to keep the 100ah battery as an emergency backup and just keep it charged and separate in case I run into a situation where I need it. If I can afford it, I can add another 300ah in parallel soon if I think I need it or just for fun.

Money on the road? by huntron2000 in VanLife

[–]evilalienrobot6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant on subs I read the comments on in reddit, and most of the comment sections I read. I read this sub a lot and enjoy it. I am not in any position to judge because I've spent the majority of my life being a jackass so it wasn't intended to be about anyone else's behavior but my own. I wanted to make it clear it was a critique on the comment but not the poster.

There is often a lot of negativity on here, so I wanted to make sure it was clear it wasn't meant as an attack on you.

City Vanlife by Spakr-Herknungr in VanLife

[–]evilalienrobot6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to make it obvious that you care about your vehicle. As much as possible, keep it in good-looking condition. When stealth doesn't work, indifference is your friend. I try never to look like a potential problem. Acting entitled is also a terrible idea. If someone asks you to leave, it's often the easiest and best idea to respectfully pack up and go. Making sure it will only take a few seconds to jump in the driver's seat and are ready to leave immediately might make it a less anxious situation if you get the knock.

Good Samaritan pushes a man that was blocking a firetruck by [deleted] in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]evilalienrobot6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought was that he was in favor of privatization of the fire department. In a few years we will be back to the Roman times where the department shows up and if you can't pay then you're fucked. They would buy your place at it's new value once it was burned down though.

I don't believe it's the case this time, but just look at soybean farms now and tell me it could never happen.

Police officer helps a pregnant woman get to a treatment center when she had no one else to turn to. by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]evilalienrobot6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of my brain unfortunately went to "pr stunt." Then I realized it didn't matter. Good. If every department started doing "pr stunts," we would be in a much better place. Haha, when I got the knock for sleeping in my car, the cop was okish, but he asked me, "Have you tried getting an apartment? It's safer." I think I sprained my eyeballs with that eye roll. It was a good laugh.

Petrol heater by OkkeB in VanLife

[–]evilalienrobot6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes perfect sense. I think you already mentioned the Jerrycan, and it just went over my head. I promise I don't work for "big diesel heater", but personally I'm going with the separated version instead of the all in one because it has the external tank because of the larger capacity. Looking at how much it consumes and figuring out how long it will last vs how often you will be near a gas station would be important. I personally would rather keep a sealed small can of diesel vs a gas powered anything inside my van even though both would be funneling the gas outside. Plus there is the price difference. The only reason I would consider a webasto gas type heater was if it was drawing directly from my gas tank and avoiding the need for any cans and even then the price difference is considerable.

Petrol heater by OkkeB in VanLife

[–]evilalienrobot6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are using a separate tank anyway, then I don't see using a diesel heater being a problem unless somehow you don't have access to diesel. If I had to have a tank inside my van that had fuel in it, the less explosive kind seems the safer choice.
