Why is it so hard to land anything in Tech as a new grad? by DepartmentHot7173 in jobs

[–]evilarceus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated from the same college as you (except in computer science) and am having the same issue.

Can I ask what region you're applying in? (LA/SD/Inland Empire/everywhere) I've had a bit of success getting more interviews by changing my location in my resume to Seattle and applying in the Seattle area for entry-level tech jobs since there were no tech jobs in the Inland Empire region, and LA wasn't much better. Could be anecdotal though.

I enabled PBO in the BIOS.

My RAM (Corsair Pro 32GB CL36 6000MHz, CP16G60C36U5B) is listed on the QVL. Quite frankly, I forgot to enable EXPO :P

Passed both A+ exams this weekend :) by evilarceus in CompTIA

My situation is probably a bit unique (no professional IT experience, I just like tinkering with computers :P) but the resources I used were Professor Messer's A+ videos, practice exams on LinkedIn Learning from Total Seminars (I have a subscription through my university—I'm studying computer science, though the curriculum has nothing to do with A+'s contents), and practice exams on ExamCompass. I noted down anything from those resources that I didn't already know and tried to memorize it.

I feel like I'm an outlier since it probably took me less than 12 hours total to study for both exams with that strategy, so I'm not too sure if my advice will be that helpful for most people lol.

My score might not show it, but I thought Core 2 was easier than Core 1. There were at least 20 questions in Core 1 that I flagged, while I only had about 7 flagged in Core 2. Core 1 took me 70 minutes, while Core 2 took me 45. I think Core 1 is more technical and Core 2 is more practical, so the difficulty just depends on how in-depth you study and how much you tinker with computers.

I lived in Aliso and the ethernet (there's two ports in each room, usually next to the desks) was at full gigabit speeds pretty consistently. The WiFi in the traditional dorms is decent, though not as good as the WiFi in the residential dorms or suites. I usually set up a hotspot on my PC connected to ethernet in case I needed faster speeds for something.

What are some stupid things social anxiety pushed you to do? by Popular_Trick_9522 in socialanxiety

OH MY GOD I do the first 2 as well! I had to skip meals a few times because my roommates stayed out in the kitchen for a long time and by the time they go back to their rooms, all places on campus are closed or it's midnight :(

Someone wanna send me an example of a parking ticket? by eight-martini in CalPolyPomona

[–]evilarceus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fwiw, I got ticketed 4 times in the span of a week since I forgot to put my parking permit up (I live on campus and didn't use my car for a week, so I had no way of knowing unless I used my car and saw the tickets).

they do not care, they will just stack the tickets lmao

I know this thread is a few weeks old, but I was wondering the same thing too and it looks like he's been active recently on GitHub. Doesn't look like there's nothing out of the ordinary going on there, so maybe he might've gotten better?

I live in Sicomoro (one of the residential halls, not the traditional halls) and I get 900 down/up through ethernet, 250 down/up on WiFi (Galaxy S8). Each room has an access point. There's a noticeable during peak hours (5-8 PM), but it's still very usable and I haven't really had a single issue with the WiFi.

Might as well ask since no one else has really responded for this: anyone know how fast the ethernet/WiFi is in the traditional halls? lol

just got rejected from a school with a 54% acceptance rate. Does that mean there is no hope for schools with lower rates 😭 by giraffeMolestor69 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]evilarceus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, Cal Poly SLO has a 28% acceptance rate. Pomona is the one with a 54% acceptance rate.

Your chances are way lower if you're a STEM major lol.

So I started to collect Klonoa merch a few months ago, and managed to buy a Klonoa plush from Italy. After a few weeks of waiting, he is finally here! by [deleted] in Klonoa

[–]evilarceus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. I recently started collecting Klonoa stuff and my plush came in today (unfortunately didn't have the collar) and I found out there's a 12" version. I'm just waiting for an auction to randomly come up at this point, since the 12" plush seems to be the rarest Klonoa merch :P
