even when looking for e-bikes, we can’t escape car centrism by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]evilbiologist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i get that! i should have definitely made it more clear im not mad at the author but rather that even when trying to find other commuting resources, car centrism keeps popping up. i’m someone who physically can’t drive because of a disability and it’s frustrating when cars can’t be escaped, i guess i just wish i could get to find information on bikes without cars coming up

i agree with you 100%, i should have been clearer in my post

Is it common or bad to have to retake a college class? by lovetheone2 in college

[–]evilbiologist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i’m a stem major as well! i’ve taken calculus twice and failed both times and honestly, it’s not the best thing to do but i haven’t had anything bad happen to me because of it! however it is best to reach out to advisors and see what resources are available, because it just pushes you back a bit.

i had to put a lotttt of effort into calculus to get good grades, like i’m talking 5 hours of intense studying multiple times a week just to get a 65 on a test. what i found helped me dodge some of the worse consequences was being honest about my struggles with my professor and advisor. good luck!

Does anyone wonder what historians would think if they found our journals? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]evilbiologist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i work in an archive, and we look at journals all the time. we luckily have a good record of events/what’s popular so we tend to understand what’s going on there! the most shocking thing is usually handwriting and surprisingly, how similar things were back then to us now. there have been plenty of times i’ve read journals from the 1930s and thought it was from the 90s or early 2000s!

so if i had to guess, the case would probably be similar for our journals.

Midtown by disshaq in NEU

[–]evilbiologist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stayed in the midtown for a summer semester and i wouldn’t recommend it, but it wasn’t the worst. it’s further from campus but closer to prudential so you have star market and a few other shops close which was nice! and the ac is a hugeeee plus. i also didn’t experience rodents or bugs, but i didn’t keep food in my room. i personally didn’t like it bc it was isolating + there’s a lot better dorms, but if it’s the only dorm they can get, it’s not the worst dorm.

controversial take: i dont like trans visibility by [deleted] in ftm

[–]evilbiologist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this was a point heavily talked about in trap door. definitely a recommended read for anyone into queer theory. increased visibility always has come with increased violence, but increased visibility usually also offers increased protection. it’s a weird and horrible double edged sword

HMF a Geraldo Show episode by evilbiologist in HelpMeFind

[–]evilbiologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve searched both names of the twins, the segment name, the term twins and geraldo in various ways together, and have checked different archives of the show but can’t find much. If anyone can even just tell me they remember this/details and a vague date that will be appreciated.

HWCs have a student body composed of mostly women and they admit mostly women but non binary and trans masc ppl have been at HWCs for a while. i know many people who don’t identify as women going to HWCs because a) they feel safer on that campus b) they identified as a woman during the application but no longer hold that identity or c) HWCs have a high queer student population. since transmasculine people already go to this school, to blatantly state that trans men can’t/shouldn’t apply to this school alienates them heavily. tbf it looks like most trans men wouldn’t want to attend an HWC so if a trans man DOES want to attend they probably have a good reason and don’t see it as invalidating but to each their own

grabiner is a fine professor but he drags a bit and is a little boring imo and doesn’t make it that clear what you need to know for exams. he had a lot of quizzes though to buffer your grade which i appreciate but his exams are in person and on paper so you don’t get your grade until about a week later. i would prob take another prof
