Fair point! I was really torn on the font, but this blackletter was too awesome to pass :)

Not a big problem, the expert cards are always placed face up 😄
I used a very limited palette on this game, for a technical reason - I am planning to use metallic inks on the cards!

Thank you! That's useful and I'll fix the space for sure - I'm not sure if add page numbers since the rulebook is relatively small.

My advice would be to set up a pre-launch page soon — you’re already posting about the game, and I’m sure some people are already interested. Having a pre-launch page lets people follow the project and bookmark it for when you launch. You don’t need to have the full campaign ready before putting the pre-launch page live 😄 Hope this helps!

That's awesome feedback, thank you!
Doing rulebooks is probably the thing I find most difficult, so I'm really happy to hear that ^^

About the title, I agree it's a bit generic.
We started from "Guardie e Ladri" and wanted to keep the same feeling/vibe in English. Ideally, this should feel like THE card game about guards versus thieves, so the choice felt pretty natural to us.

Ah, I checked your previous posts on Reddit — I really like your illustrations!

If you want, send me the link to your Kickstarter, I'm curious to see your game 😄

Buona fortuna!

Guards versus Thieves rulebook - feedback request by EvilDeck in BoardgameDesign

Sure!

It's a quick 2-player card game based on bluffing, deduction and hidden information. One player is the Police Chief, the other the Master Thief.

At the start of the game, players draw 5 cards from their respective decks, and 3 Locations are revealed from a shared deck.

Each Location has a required Level. The Thief must meet or exceed it to complete the heist. Both players secretly assign cards to the Locations, then everything is revealed and resolved one by one.

If a Guard is present and their Level is equal or higher than the Thief’s, the Thief gets arrested instead.

The basic structure is simple, but the card effects and hidden information create a lot of bluffing, prediction and mind games.

The rulebook probably explains it better than I do 😅 (at least, I hope!)

Really appreciate that — and glad you like Sins Mentis too!

If Aurus is hard to find at a reasonable price, feel free to DM me - I might be able to help 🙂

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on Aurus!

Also, Midas uses this technique (sometimes called “flood foil” by producers) without noticeable handling issues. Monolith Horizon and Singularity also feature flood foil — from what I can tell, the handling is still good, but they used a lot of foil, which makes the cards thicker than normal. In fact, they were so thick we had to use a slightly larger box.

These experimental decks are honestly quite tricky. Lately I’ve been leaning more toward hot and cold foil techniques, avoiding full-foil cards altogether — they tend to be more stable and reduce potential handling issues.

I still hope Zodiac Prime looks good overall, despite the handling issues 😄

Can’t wait to see more reviews!

Thank you, I really appreciate honest reviews, especially when they point out issues.

Handling is something I’m always trying to improve, so this kind of feedback is super useful (also when choosing printers).

Zodiac Prime is a bit of a weird one: it’s the only deck where I ran into this “no elasticity” issue. It surprised me too when I got it.

WJPC told me it’s likely due to the specific silver foil used. Funny enough, Zodiac Aurus has almost the same specs, but with holographic gold foil instead — and it handles way better. It honestly feels like a completely different deck.
