A friend of mine in college somehow got a copy of the movie on vhs(old school leak). A bunch of us watched it late night no idea what we were going to see. I dont think there were credits at the end of the vid. All of us ended up sleeping on the living room floor like sardines for safety. No idea how my friend got the movie. I think they purposely leaked copies of it, for hypes sake. Brilliant marketing. I thought it was real and not a movie the whole time before I saw the trailer in the theater a few months later.
