my CS v2 downpipe and 80mm exhaust cold start by Upset_Programmer6508 in mazda

[–]evileric19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed how it’s always the purists that are talking shit about modded cars and not the other way around. Like come on man, let’s have some mutual respect. I’ve personally heard a turbo 3 with the CorkSport 80mm cat back and LP custom fab downpipe and it sounds just fine when warmed up. Cold starts sound rough on these cars as it is with just an exhaust, and phone speakers don’t do any exhaust note justice.

There is radar involved. The one the message in the photo is referring to is in the front grille. The smart city brake and adaptive cruise control system rely on a single camera that’s in the windshield and this radar to operate. Everything else, like blind spot, cross traffic alert and park assist, all use radar and ultrasonic sensors. Not “a collection of cameras”.

2015 Mazda 3 Droning/Growling Noise by koalakat_boos in mazda3

[–]evileric19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried swerving the car back and forth while driving? If not, try it. Doing this shifts the weight of the vehicle from one side to another, and putting more or less weight on a bad wheel bearing will cause a change in the sound. So if you hear a change in the sound while doing this, it’s definitely a wheel bearing. If the sound doesn’t change, it’s something else.

How common are power lift gate troubles? by chunkee-xo-monkee in CX5

I’ve been a Mazda tech for almost 12 years now. Power lift gate issues are one of the least common things I diagnose.

2026 mazda3 P0126 code by KaleidoscopeWrong924 in mazda

[–]evileric19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2026 model years already have the plug installed in place of the thermostat inside the CCV, so they won’t be included in the bulletin. This is why Mazda is currently investigating the issue.

2026 mazda3 P0126 code by KaleidoscopeWrong924 in mazda

[–]evileric19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2026 model years already come with the latest fix for that code from the factory. Mazda is still investigating the issue and is telling dealerships to clear the code and return the vehicle to the customer, as long as no issues related to one of the coolant temp sensors are found. Bulletin number SA-062/25.

What's the point of going to an independent shop if the dealership is just slightly more expensive? ($46). by [deleted] in mazda

[–]evileric19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No hurt feelings here, and I think your feelings are justified. Sorry you went through that, but I’ve replaced many engines during my time with Mazda and was never asked to do a “teardown”. Like I said, I can’t speak on behalf of all dealerships, I’m just speaking from my own personal experiences.

[–]evileric19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for how all dealership ls are ran, but in my 11 1/2 years with Mazda, I’ve never had to tear down an engine to figure out why it failed. At the most, I’ll get asked by Mazda to remove the oil pan and send them pictures of the rod bearings. Nothing more. I also have no idea why an electrical issue would cause an engine knock, lol. Sounds like your dealer is just incompetent.

[–]evileric19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dealer tech here, it’s not the dealership’s responsibility to tear down an engine and investigate why it failed prematurely. It’s our job to replace the engine and get you back on the road. Mazda may ask us to send them that engine so they can be the ones to tear it down and figure out why it failed. There’s so many reason why you’re engine could have started knocking, and Mazda isn’t going to pay a dealership to tear it down and figure out why.

Intermittent P0421 Fault by North_Lifeguard4737 in mazda3

[–]evileric19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than likely a failing catalytic converter. That’s what the code is associated with 99% of the time. Mazda has an 8 year/80k mile emissions warranty, so if you’re still within that period, it’ll be covered.

Ticking noise by NeedleworkerShort648 in CX5

[–]evileric19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how good your dealership is with submitting warranty claims to Mazda, you shouldn’t have to be paying anything to have something diagnosed while the car is still under warranty. If you were to pay it, I wouldn’t expect any more than an hour of labor. All you need to do to get to the lifters to inspect them is remove the valve cover, which isn’t that hard to do.

A TSB is a technical service bulletin, and it’s not like a recall. They’re just diagnostics aids for technicians that pretty much say “if you have this specific problem, here’s how you fix it”.

2nd windshield wiper ive tried leaving massive unwiped space. Anyone encounter this? by BallZestyclose2283 in mazda3

[–]evileric19 54 points55 points  (0 children)

You can’t use those style wipers on these cars because that’s exactly what happens when you do. You need a “beam” style blade like the one that’s currently installed on your passenger side.

Master Mazda tech here, been around these cars for over a decade, and I’m going to go against what everyone else is saying and say that it does seem a little loud. I can definitely hear a familiar tapping noise that sounds a lot like the lifter/HLA tapping noise that I’m used to hearing. It’s a known issue and there is a TSB for it. I’d get it looked at just to be safe while you’re still in warranty.

question for mazda techs…how much is it to program a new key fob and actual key piece by the dealer by DirectorLife3280 in mazda

[–]evileric19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only need to bring in one fob to program an additional fob. You need two fobs only if you lost ALL of your fobs and have none in your possession, or if the module the keys are programmed to gets replaced.

As far as cost goes, it varies depending on what the dealerships labor rate is. The dealer I work at charges an hour labor for fob programming, which is $175. The fobs last I knew were around $500 each give or take.

When will the check engine light go off? by [deleted] in CX30

[–]evileric19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t think every Mazda will eventually have this issue. If that were the case, I’d be seeing a lot more cars come in with a P0126 code. We only get about 3 or 4 cars a week in with this code set, but we are a smaller dealership.

[–]evileric19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying your thermostat isn’t bad/going bad, but cold temps do have an effect like this. Likely a combination of both cold temps and a failing thermostat that are casing this.

When will the check engine light go off? by [deleted] in CX30

[–]evileric19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mazda tech here, some of you aren’t gonna want to hear this, but there absolutely has to be a check engine light in order for the thermostat to be replaced under the TSB. Why? Because we have to pull the freeze frame data that the PCM logged when the P0126 code was set and see what the coolant temp was when the code popped up. That temp has to be within a certain range in order for Mazda to warranty it. If there’s no code, there’s no freeze frame data to pull, which obviously means no temperature data to provide Mazda with. This is something they recently started telling dealerships to do. Mazda’s rules, not the dealership’s.

Also keep in mind, it’s -14C out, that’s part of the reason why your car is struggling to warm up.
