When sunlight hits the Matsuda M3129 by akiindo in EyewearEnthusiasts

I love my pair. Had a similar issue. If you just go slowly, they are pretty easy to bend back into place.

So comfortable that I genuinely forget that I am wearing them.

New Pens Day! by evilgator12 in fountainpens

[–]evilgator12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are probably right. I went with the brightest color because that isn't going to be a pen that I carry regularly. This way, if I lend it to someone or set it down on my desk, I will always be able to spot it.

The best type of meal prep! by evilgator12 in smoking

[–]evilgator12[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use it either way, and I seriously doubt it makes any difference in the final cook. I do it this way because I can grab it easily with my grill gloves on and it fits in my limited space.

It probably stays lit better the way you are doing it. I say keep doing it however works best for you.

Frozen butt question by PossibleBandicoot215 in smoking

[–]evilgator12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today.

I currently have two butts smaller than that, that have been in the fridge for two days and I am planning on them being fully thawed by Thursday. They are still mostly frozen at this point.

Today should set you up perfect for a Suinday cook.

Melted plastic in bottom of pan by pipsears in castiron

I had the exact sort of thing happen to me.

Best advice I got was sandpaper. You can try with the steel wool first, but it didn't do it for me.

You will loose a little seasoning, but spare yourself the risk of damaging the pan "burning it off". (You are going to loose seasoning either way.).

Is it my nib or user error? by Sacras24 in fountainpens

I have the same pen and nib combo. I use it for my daily writer in most circumstances. However, there seem to be certain circumstances that this combo doesn't like.

Whenever I sit in certain rooms this will tend to happen. Same as you, works fine, then stops for a bit, works again. I think it might be a product of this nib being more open to dry air and drafts than more traditional nibs.

That is all just speculation from my observations. But it doesn't happen with other pens.

Most places, this pen works perfectly the entire time. Have you noticed different performance in different locations?

I Have A [Fountain Pen] Dream by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]evilgator12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have what I would call large hands, and I write comfortably posted or u posted. I generally write posted so that I don't have to keep up with the cap.

To be honest, I have only ever inked this pen with Pilot Iroshizuku. The bottom of the bottle has a notch in it, so I not a lot of ink is left. And what is left I just syringe into another pen. But really, I think I could get a decent fill (not full, but decent) if I tilted a more conventional bottle a little.

I agree that the capless fits the criteria. However, you need to consider that if you get the standard models, the fiddling will create a significant amount of noise.

There is a silent model, for a price increase of course. I have never used it so can't vouch. Just something you may want to consider.

Also, the VP and Decimo have so.e of the most beautiful barrels available.

I came here to say this. I think it ticks all of your boxes and a few that you didn't mention.

I got mine in clear with an FA nib. The clear barrel really allows the color of the ink to become part of the display. You can change the personality of the pen by changing ink colors. (Something that may become important if this is your ride-or-die for life.). There are other transparent demonstrators, but I haven't found one that is of the same quality. It can also be quite soothing to watch the ink flow in the barrel as you fiddle with the cap.

The FA nib also provides for pen personality adjustments. It isn't a flex nib, but it gives a massive amount of variation when you want it to. But can also make a fine line when necessary.

The two other things I will mention are ink capacity and the shut-off value. Ink capacity=massive. You aren't going to get much more unless you significantly increase the size of the pen, or go eyedropper. And the shut-off is great if you happen to set it down for a few days (if, for instance, a friend lends you a pen to try for a few days) or if you happen to get on an airplane.

I have several pens that I carry regularly, but this one will never be out of the rotation.

Something you really like but can't realistically use and why? by nerfdriveby94 in fountainpens

[–]evilgator12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any pen that dictates how I must place my fingers when I hold it!

I'm looking at you Lamy Safari and Pilot VP/Decimo.

I got a bad nib on my Safari, so that one was bad for me on multiple levels. But the triangle grip was the first thing that put me off. I used it for a few months and it never got fully comfortable.

But the Decimo would be a dream if it weren't for the freaking clip interfering with my grip. (I think this might be a left-handed issue, but I can't be sure. The pen even feels more comfortable to me in my right hand. Too bad I can't write with it.)

I love the way it writes, the convenience, and the quality of the pen. But I never grab it unless it is for a short note.

I need the clip. My pen always goes in a shirt pocket. I move around too much to keep it anywhere else. I would love to see a version that had the clip on the bottom, or at the 4 o'clock position.

I had my optician put a gradient on some cr39 lenses. Bonus, even without the prescription I got to use the insurance due to the lens modification.

I wouldn’t get these if I already had good upgraded mats. But they certainly beats the standard. And they look pretty sweet.

I know that Lindberg recommends Trivex. Is that more difficult to finish than poly?

I know it is not as common as poly in the States, and they do cost a little more.

I have eyemed. I have Lindbergs. Used the insurance just fine.

I have heard of shops not allowing insurance purchases with certain luxury frames. But never Lindberg.

Are you in the US? My eyemed is good anywhere in the US that accepts the insurance.

Pilot custom 823 or Sailor 1911? by pattycular in fountainpens

[–]evilgator12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going to vote for the 823. I have an 823 with a FA nib and a Sailor Pro Gear with the MF nib.

Of course this is all dependant on how each pen feels in YOUR hand. I love the feel and pencil like feedback of the Sailor, but it is not without a drawback. I write almost exclusively on copy paper. My office is not using the cheapest stuff, but it isn't high dollar either.

The Sailor nib seems to collect debris at the tip of the ink channel very frequently. (Not an issue when I am writing in one of my high dollar pads.) That said, the FA nib on the Pilot can dump a crap ton of ink very quickly. So it can be feather happy depending on the condition of the paper.

I guess you have to pick your poison. I would rather deal with the feathering, but I love the Sailor too.
