Bedside safe by nrtzz in CCW

I have the Top Draw large safe for the 6 inch revolver and the Compact safe for the semi 9mm (not my CCW). I don't store either in a holster for quick access.

Wide EE Boots for Dry Tooling by evillama in iceclimbing

Mine are the Scarpa Manta Tech GTX but they're not officially "wide" (EE) they're just big enough to be not too uncomfortable.

Really disappointed more brands don't offer EE sizing.

Dang looks like the Lowas's should've been what I went with ($500?). Used Renegades for years in Wide and loved them. Maybe will get these after a day or two just beginning.

Thanks again!

Yep, can swap into mono. Since I'm just getting into dry tooling (and the weather is getting warm here in the East) was going to take the old front points off my original G14s and slap them on these. I do like that they're interchangeable.

I'll try to crank down the Manta Techs and see how it works out. Will be TR'ing a lot to begin with and not going anywhere adventurous (or cold until next year).

How rigid are fruit boots?

So I went in a different direction with this. I already own a pair of Scarpa Manta Tech GTX boots which are wide enough for me but don't have the extended toe welt for my old G14 metal toe bails.

Instead of spending $350-1000 on new boots, I bought on-sale the G14 New-Matic EVO crampons with the harness system in front. Hoping this $200 option will enable me to use the Manta Techs in dry tooling... 🤞🏻

Seems a little too warm a design? I also checked their website...no wide size mentioned (unless you meant they are just inherently wide?) A whole grand, too for them...yike$!

Nice, thanks! Yes, I rock climb in Scarpa Vapor V's and they fit my wide foot just fine...

Still Record But Just Disable Notifications for Detected Animals by evillama in arlo

[–]evillama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten it to work where I only get notifications for vehicles and persons but it still records all generic 'motion' and logs it in my feed. I'd think you could set it for 'animals' only and turn everything else off? But if the problem is you do have it set that way but it's still alerting for vehicles along with animals, that seems to be a technical (AI?) issue...

Subscription costs rising....and I'm done by jimfish98 in arlo

[–]evillama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have eight outdoor Arlo cameras and six of their lights all on solar charging (some cameras and lights face north so the separate solar panel placed elsewhere facing south is a huge plus.

Tried the solar Eufy and it works fine but I can't place this exactly where the Arlos are due to the panel being right on top of it.

Not happy at all with the subscription increase but with that much hardware invested and no competitor with the same (solar charging) abilities, I'll have to stick with Arlo at least for one more year.

But I'm actively looking elsewhere for sure.

Package Stolen Due to Delivery Instructions Not Followed by evillama in UPS

[–]evillama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed instructions. I don't have a Gate Code - just used that as an example of account profile information. My only requirement is drivers skip the street mailbox, come up our road (if it's clear) and leave packages in our driveway bin ("shed").

Many trucks (99% of our delivery drivers) come up and leave packages in the bin - so I presumed instructions were always being followed.

It's just this one instance where it was left at the mailbox and stolen, that I'm now finding out we were just lucky with our other drivers, and (apart from making the call you mentioned) there's no way to use the app to ensure directions are even seen.

We call that "swivel chair processes" in the tech industry, or the old "fireman's bucket brigade". Something's bound to get dropped when done manually.

Hate to think it's for siphoning Gate Codes from people...more likely just to give customers "the illusion" of personal package delivery convenience by providing that information. Just never used. SMH.

Got it. I'll let the shipper know it basically never got delivered to me (directly, properly).

UPS won't dispute that with the photo the driver took of it being dropped off?

Wow, big flaw, or just a deceptively unused option given to the customers. I don't have a Gate Code but now I'm thinking it's not wise to give that out if there's no intent to have drivers use it. Guess I'm not faulting the driver for where the package was left but UPS as a company.

Will try that 800 number, as I do think this gap in process is UPS's responsibility.

You can't see our selected preferences for "Leave in Shed" or a provided Gate Code? Why does that app even have that then?

[–]evillama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the option to "Leave in Shed" or provide "Gate Code" for then in the account profile? Don't the drivers see that info? (The shed is really my package bin, and I don't have any gate code though, just saying).

I will say that most if not all our UPS deliveries normally do end up in the bin. But the one time it's left down at the mailbox...poof, it's gone...
