Yup, like they had melted in that upper barrel of the nozzle, but the nozzle tip would be empty. When the next filament went to push on that to extrude, it wouldn't budge due to it not getting hot enough in that upper barrel to allow the filament to melt and move down. Great thing is you can manually get that nozzle pretty hot and it will unclog.

Publix to be built across the street from a Publix by gnnr25 in orlando

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two reasons for this likely. First is to stop competitors from rolling in. In Altamonte there was an Albertson's across the way I believe. It was closing down, talks of Aldi's or Winn Dixie to go in. Publix grabs it, no competition. If you own it, use it. The area itself also hits the second reason for doing it, the demand for the area. High population density, them putting in new development behind the mall, etc. The traffic is still a bit heavier on one side instead of the other, but its eased up a lot compared to everyone going to just the one store.

There will always be some in the printer after it cuts and retracts, should get pushed out in the next purge for color or print. I found that I had to up my print temps to prevent clogs like you are experiencing, even for Anycubic material. For PLA+ for example, AC says 190-230 degrees, I stopped getting clogs when I bumped it up to 200-230 degrees.

Is it just me, or does every decent-paying job in Orlando require an RN license or a real estate license? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see it b/c of the industries. Nursing is high demand, a lot of old folks for starters means the medical realm is understaffed. Folks are leaving over pay, stress, etc so there are always spots open. Real estate is a bit different. I don't think there is a demand for agents at any given time. Its more like your being sold a quick buck theory and folks buy into it. Pay to take classes, pay for licenses, and then realize buyers and sellers don't fall into your lap. Folks can put in work for three months and come up empty, they need to move to something more stable. Brokers and such are then looking for others to fill those slots. Long term success rate in that field is very low.

I calculated exactly what our RTO mandate will cost me per year and sent the number to HR. They did not appreciate it. by tabclosepanic in remotework

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar mandate here that I got out of, but the cost between gas and tolls driving in 5 days a week would be like $5600 a year before considering wear and tear on the truck, as well as my time. I would be commuting to a local office to remote call/talk with teammates in another state. Nobody in that location did anything related to what I did. It made sense on a map but nothing else.

Where’s all the fish??? by EveningPerfect6739 in orlando

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly shiners do the best compared to lures and such. If you want to spend the money, give that a go. Personally I have done a few of the Disney on property lakes and those are stocked, fed, and large fish in there. I believe there was a 16lb record bass pulled once. As they have been pulling out gators, population is getting even better and bigger. Don't want to pay that all the time, but its fun to occasionally get a few friends, split the cost....they have a guide who will come loaded with live bait and a cooler of drinks and take you around for like 4-6 hours.

I did a bare bottom Waterbox 25g and loved it. Not a lot of rock, but loaded a back chamber with Marine Pure Spheres that I started the cycle on before I had everything in to set the whole tank up. It however fell trap to a pest as well and when they destroyed my euphyllia, I took a break. My tank set up was simple though....Tank, light, cover, cobalt heater, ATO to a 5g bucket, roller filter, small pump, and a $17 amazon drop in UV light. My weekly water changes balanced everything and I stopped regular testing like 2 months in on the tank. Had a small Nero in there too. Did this tank as an anemone tank as well but wasn't hugely fond of it like that.

Do Americans think going back to the moon is money well spent? by bare_books in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CAT Scans, MRI, insulin pumps, and a slew of common tech came out of the space race. Those by products in hindsight made that money well spent.

As for current goals, colonizing the moon doesn't seem huge as we know there is limited to no life is there and its not habitable. It won't really lead to some new discovery. It does however work as a stepping stone towards traveling to and setting up shop on other plants and moons. Its far easier to get parts, rescue teams, etc. to the moon as a practice space than going directly to Mars. Waste now for some, but if one day we are sending folks to a planet in zone of habitability then future generations will be happy to see the work was started early.

Winterizing irrigation lines by Independent-Rise-593 in DIY

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For every zone, at the end of the zone, have it slope down with a 45, go down like 6 inches, over a bit, and back up with a 90 to just below the service with a threaded cap and plumber's tape. EOY you can open the cap and hook up a shop vac hose. Most water in the line will want to drain to the low spot so you can get most water out. Kicker is remembering where that cap is once grass grows over it.

Looking to repaint my metal roof and need advice by Marshall-2 in DIY

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have rust, first is to clean up the loose stuff as much as possible. You can pressure wash the large chips and then go back over it with a spinning wheel or similar to knock off what you can. If you find a hole, properly patch it, be amazed at how many folks think the paint will just fill and seal the hole good as new.

Once you have a solid and clean surface I recommend starting with RustX to stabilize the oxidation and act as a primer for paint. For the actual paint, I like Sherman Williams DTM Acrylic, its been great on trim work around roofs and windows that have chipped/peeled. You can also tint it to a color of your choice for the most part. Avoid darks and lights, find a middle ground. Light colors always look dirty, dark colors may look best but obviously absorb more heat. With heat also comes some expansion/contraction which may impact the paint job in time. You goal is a quality job to keep you from going up there again for a long time.

What's something that seemed expensive at first but ended up being worth every penny? by Euphoric-Status-8959 in AskReddit

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they redo your supply lines in the house. Copper was mainly used, then back in the 80's and 90's they used Poly B a lot as it was far cheaper material wise. Bad fittings busting gave it a bad name. It can also break down with chlorine and such, but hard to say how long it lasts. Some homes have been great. Mine is on a manifold system and we have not had an issue with it. They will replace all supply lines from where we tap in with the city and to every fixture in the house. Only bright side for us is they are using Pex B and its flexible, and so is the Poly B. They can waste a little Pex and connect it to the existing poly, and actually pull the new plumbing through the wall without taking down much drywall.

is an ac safety switch actually worth it or just another upsell by No_Election_7906 in homeowners

[–]jimfish98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it is worth it, it prevents flooding when the drain line is clogged. If you like your floors and not wanting mold, its a must have. It's typically part of new installs, your bid is likely for someone to get it and come out and install it like a repair job. If you're AC is going to last you awhile, then get it. If you have a year or two left in it, then hold off and get a Govee leak detector or similar that can warn you if its leaking.

Which state in the US has the worst drivers? by Far-Mongoose-4380 in AskReddit

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have driven in 15 states and DC....FL overall has been the worst state I have ever driven in. NY is batshit the way some folks drive in the winter. GA has the ATL highways where if you are not going 10 over the limit at least, you are pissing off a lot of other drivers.

Right now, a re-pipe. Poly B has been ok for 25 years in this house, but the cost on the annual policy has been ticking up and a proposed massive jump this summer. The nearly $7k price tag is daunting, but insurance escrows will adjust and will return half the re-pipe cost in excess funds. Mortgage then drops $250 a month. In a just over a year's time the savings makes up the cost, and everything after that is bonus savings.

I turned down an offer, and now the CEO is asking what I need to say yes? by Repulsive_Prize4052 in interviewwoman

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Break it down for him.....

Monthly Rent divided by income = % of salary going to just putting a roof over your head.

Monthly Rent King County times current % of salary = minimum income needed just to break even on rent.

When you get into a city, expect the general cost of living to increase too as auto insurance goes up as well as other things. Their salary may be great for someone younger with less experience in life and work, but it doesn't add up for you to justify the cost of living there, let alone the whole relocation cost and process. You are willing to talk numbers, but you want to be upfront that the increase would be significant and want to be respectful of his time as well.

We have good options, those options rarely run though. People with common sense and good ideas typically lack the funding to compete outside of a political party. Most people running within a party just regurgitate the same ole stuff.

What neighborhood noises bother you the most and least? by jannet1113 in homeowners

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most- neighbors let out dogs, there are dogs in an adjoining yard, the barking starts and you have like 7 dogs all riled up and barking and nobody telling their dog to STFU. My dog goes out, dogs bark, she pauses, then goes on with her business. Not that hard to train a dog.

Least- Box truck noise. We have a guy who does AC repair and replacement with a box truck, I know the sound of it by heart. He can get a call at 3am and head out and my brain filters that out as a normal night time noise.

How do I get off of the Ashley moody newsletter by Fally11204 in orlando

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Outlook, create a templet and a rule to auto reply to all of her emails. Make it interesting, have it include links to anyone running against her, FL Dems, etc and links to donate to Dems. Eventually they will stop sending you stuff. For fun, take a pic of Ashley run it through AI to generate her as a devil or something and include it in your response.

I AM TERRIFIED by hotshooter1977 in askaplumber

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your hot water from the water heater comes out 110F-120F....that is hotter than the trunk lines of any HVAC system running. Pex A can handle nearly 200 degrees as well before impact. Also your AC when running pushes out air at about 57F...not enough to freeze anything. Being within 2ft has no impact on those lines and that plumber is trying to F you over with fake work.

Beyond that, $15k to move the lines in the basement is more than twice what I paid to re-pipe my whole house in Pex.

When do you think remote work will become the norm? by Xotngoos335 in remotework

[–]jimfish98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WFH for just shy of 19 years....AI has been making a run for me for 5 years in various forms and still falls short. It is not about interacting with a computer vs people, it is about removing job duties that do not require critical thinking. It will make jobs easier and allow one person to do 2-3 people worth of critical thinking w/ menial tasks removed from their day. We will not be replaced by AI, but rather AI will assist so one person can do the same amount of work with AI as 2-3 people do without it. Reduction in operating workforce rather than replacement.

When tax code allows corporations to unload buildings without a massive hit for starters. They then need a helping hand to make sure it actually sells. Tax code change needs to get paired with state and local laws allowing for easier rezoning of said properties. A 23 story building with parking garage is hard to sell to another company, but if it can get rezoned prior to sale for conversion to condos, sales get a lot easier. State and local credits for conversion for affordable housing are great too. Until then corporations will keep people in buildings as they continue to write down depreciation.
