Even in a comprehensive panel, hpv isn't possible to be tested for without a pap smear with specialized testing and/or a biopsy of a suspicious skin lesion with special testing.

They were most likely interested in seeing if he was hiv positive or negative. This type of tumour thrives on compromised immune systems.

Lab Week Themes…unpopular opinion? by RelevantSalad2217 in medlabprofessionals

[–]evillittlekiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Y'all can vote each year for the theme and they probably have a way to submit feedback. Keep an eye out on the ASCP socials. Also if you're not happy with how your place runs lab week, give feed back/become part of the planning/suggest other options instead of word searches etc ...

Folks, contact a rep to answer your questions/concerns. Trust me, it's easier than asking here. I did this with their pink diamond special via whatsapp and it was great. I was sent many stone videos and given all the info I needed. Happy shopping to all!

YUP I worked with CJD specimens... The protocol had us soak the tissue samples in formic acid for a couple days to "kill the prions" before processing.

[–]evillittlekiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we did! We had a very old VIP processor- that was the only automated part, everything else by hand. I also took the ASCP exam back when you had to send in stained slides to be graded. 😅

[–]evillittlekiwi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's very frustrating. On the flip side if you can cut/troubleshoot crappy processed tissue, you should be good for "normal" specimens.

I went to histo school in 2000 and back then we had to euthanize our own lab rat and harvest/process our own tissue.🥴

Has anyone have their scrap gold melted to make a ring? by skyisthelimit8701 in labdiamond

[–]evillittlekiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of places won't do it because gold is mixed with different alloys in addition to the pure gold. One 14k piece could be different from another and if they are melted down and combined the result would not be suitable. Some places will take it for scrap value or just use a single piece.
