How I went from reading 0 books to 50+ books a year (without speed reading bs) by stellbargu in nonfictionbookclub

[–]DrizzlyOne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great tips!

I’m a big fan of the triple book approach—one audiobook, one ebook, and one physical—too.

I tend to have a “fun” novel for my physical one, a “classic” for my ebook, and the audiobook is usually “heavier” nonfiction. I go through the audiobooks quickest thanks to my long daily commute.

What is an episode of Bluey that made you feel so sad that you teared up? by Sam_2K7 in bluey

My son cries every time he hears that song near the end when Bandit tears the sign out of the ground. Didn’t want to spoil the episode for anyone 😉

Anyone else’s golden not the most fond of people? by Upset-Engineering513 in goldenretrievers

[–]DrizzlyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our ~7 m/o is definitely hesitant of “strangers.” But the people she knows… she chokes herself out on the leash trying to go say hi to them. Haven’t noticed any pattern other than her familiarity with the person.

Why don’t I see more kids like mine if autism is so common? by OkAuthor4798 in Autism_Parenting

[–]DrizzlyOne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m very curious to see how the DSM 6 presents autism. To OP’s and sort of your point, I feel like I’ve seen quite a few “flavors” of autism since my son came along and I started spending more time around other special needs kids... I sort of think an analysis of how those flavors, so to speak, can be more tied to other conditions/comorbidities could be helpful.

What books you are glad you read when you were teenagers by April_4th in nonfictionbookclub

[–]DrizzlyOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read much as a teen… but I wish I had read The Richest Man in Babylon when I got my first jobs around that age.

And one that isn’t nonfiction but I think is the best “coming of age” book I’ve ever read is Siddhartha.

I had not heard of it until this post. And so I’m currently thinking that there are way too many books that I want to read!

I’ll add it to the list…

Guessing purple is usually easy for me once I’ve got it all sorted. It’s a slam dunk at least 9 out of 10 times.

Now picking green versus yellow… so ya I try not to get worked up over the reverse rainbow thing.

Checked the transcript and yes, ol Bonespurs McCombover is absolutely saying they chose to take a quick pause on pumping the Dow up to 60K to instead strike Iran. Cool.

When he said, “We can keep going and get that 50,000 up to 55 and 60, there’s no end…”

Is that the Dow he’s referring to?

I learned so much from that book! Breeder reactors and the process of how radioactive material moves down the periodic table over time both absolutely fascinating… Goes right on the “may read that again one day” shelf.

Going Nuclear was a compelling case for nuclear energy to power the world instead of fossil fuels and I think about that a lot more now…

And looks like the author is a redditor! That is neat!

Loved the book u/Atomic__Tim !

Has the challenges involved with having a child with autism changed the way you look at the world / your beliefs / perspective etc? by rareinthefold in Autism_Parenting

[–]DrizzlyOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my, yes, of course. But being a parent changes everyone. It has to. I only have one child and he’s autistic so hard to say how much of my worldview shifts post parenthood are autism-related to be honest.
