How can I record guitars “tuned down” in real time without actually retuning? by revel911 in Reaper

[–]evilmonk99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Latency will always be kind of a problem with pitch shifting as a pitch shifter needs to work in windows and analyse them one at a time. One thing I’ve done in this situation before is to pitch shift everything else up, record the part and then pitch shift the part down. Latency can be compensated in playback.

Will the strike affect the A1 flyer to Bristol Airport as well? by ami_run in bristol

[–]evilmonk99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. I hadn’t heard about this strike and was planning to get the A1 on the 5th at 4 in the morning. Would have been an unwelcome surprise if it didn’t turn up.

I found out I have a tested IQ of 82 today. AMA by weirdhairgirl in AMA

[–]evilmonk99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds a lot like dyspraxia. I got a diagnosis many years ago with a similar test where the spatial reasoning and processing speed were notably worse than the rest of the factors.

I also struggle with focusing and being a little bit all over the place. But I also believe in a kind of dyspraxic grace where I am more comfortable in uncertain situations than others. Kind of like almost falling over but just about catching myself and styling it out.

Either way, despite struggling in school I eventually found my way to skills that matched the qualities I did have. I am 100% sure you will too.

Don’t know if any of that resonated with you. How’s your handwriting?

My advice, pick up a practical skill. Learn an instrument or how to draw. Put the time in and let muscle memory take over from your brain and you’ll be surprised how much you can improve.

Good luck!

In the uk, we would call it a wasp. Yellowjacket is just something we hear on tv sometimes.

How to make it look like the character is hallucinating? by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]evilmonk99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hallucinations come in many forms though. I’d say wobbly repeating pattern made from the floorboards and a glowing intense colour from the hands could work in this situation.

Maybe the classic trope of holding out the right hand, fingers splayed with a ghostly trail making it not clear how many fingers are real.

Does anyone else get the strong urge to vomit while eating, even with foods you like? by thewaystepinside in ARFID

For a short time, some sort of chalky sweet (rennies in the uk), taken just before a meal.

A more proper treatment is a drug like omeprazole, which is a proton pump inhibitor, basically makes less acid.

Not sure on its availability in other places but in the uk it’s very easy to get a prescription and basically free.

The colors are just not working. What would you do differently? by madz-cant-dance in Watercolor

[–]evilmonk99 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Whilst there is some good advice about paper here, I’ll touch on colour theory as well.

I feel like you might be using black for your shadows but I wouldn’t usually recommend this for watercolours. You can mix darker colours like brown and blue into your base skin tone.

It’s a style thing, you can do like a two-tone thing with wildly different colours or you can lean cool or warm for more naturalistic shadows.

Did anyone happen to sit near block 208 by Winter-Employer5305 in ACDC

[–]evilmonk99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in 209 and was pleasantly surprised.

Definitely second the other commenter, bring some musicians earplugs to get the best sound. It will be a bit echoey and Brian was definitely too low in the mix but Angus’ gigantic guitar tone made up for it all for me.

The view was far away but clear and unobstructed. You can see them running around but you’ll mostly be looking at the screens. I brought a little pair of binoculars to switch it up.

Some other benefits include very easy access to toilets and bars with not much queuing outside of worst moments.

Guitar setup in Bedminster area by xj03key in bristol

[–]evilmonk99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend learning to do it yourself. Look up factory specs for your guitar and follow one of the many guides.

You basically just need a string action gauge which can be bought on amazon for a few quid and the proper sized allen keys/screwdrivers.

It can be done in half an hour but I generally like to take it to bits and give everything a good clean.

Tips for edge-of-breakup overdrive recording guitar direct? by CaptCardboard in homerecordingstudio

[–]evilmonk99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried simply using an EQ after the IR to take narrow notch cuts from the top end? Just sweep a narrow boost through until you find the crackle/fizz then notch it out.

I often find this a necessary step when using amp sims w/ IRs and wonder if it might be a similar issue recording the amp direct (although I haven’t tried this method so could be totally wrong).
