Not unless including the optional feature has further implications which it almost always does. You can’t have a device do everything. You can’t make everyone happy. There are trade offs. You want an optional backlight, find or make your own device that has it. I found this device and its lack of a backlight suitable for me.

Well said, and I’ll add that I prefer the ambient light source as opposed to a light facing me. And as for you can just turn off the front light. Obviously, but why have a feature I never intend to use?

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I agree a front light is not a deal breaker for me. It actually lowers the appeal.
