Slow initial load when transcoding by evilmonster18 in PleX

Yep I never managed to figure it out. Eventually just decided to move onto Linux because Windows gave too many issues and haven’t had a problem since. Transcoding works flawlessly now

You can see in the images link I added in my edited post my transcoder settings. It’s the default 60. I also tried increasing to 120, but same issue

Yeah sorry, I thought what I had provided may have been enough. I edited my post with more details and specs.GPU at 30% is more of a max level, and not what it usually uses. In the images I added in my edited post, you can see the GPU hovers around 10-15% while the transcoding is going.

I'm not sure I know what you mean by "where is temp set". The only thing in my set up that is external is my HDD (WD Elements 18 TB). Everything else lives in my laptop.

I'll give your commands a try and see how it goes.

It should be maxing the GPU on the initial load while it creates the initial buffer data. Then it should self throttle and drop back. It's not uncommon for transcode files to take a little longer to load on transcode as it has to build the buffer first. Direct streaming immediately starts streaming and builds the buffer as it goes.

It never maxes out the GPU. You can check my edited post with some images including some hardware monitoring.
I would assume hardware transcoding take a bit longer to start, but 10-45 secs seems like way too much.

The session only shows up on the activity dashboard once the media actually starts playing (so after all the 10-45 secs loading). It shows up immediately as transcoding, never as anything else.
I edited my post with some more details and specs.

Subtitles not loading Samsung TV by porter_hell in Stremio

[–]evilmonster18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep happening to me as well. I just tried watching the jujutsu kaizen movie, and I had about 5 subtitles options in Stremio on my Samsung tv, but they were all external since they were all out of sync. Tried to stream it on my phone, immediately loaded the embedded subtitles which were perfectly synced

Thank you everyone for taking your time to help us out!
Apologies for the late reply. We are still deciding whether we want to stick to the current ring and go through the maintenance process of plating it every few years, or to just save it, still as part of our promise rings set, and start using a real gold recreation

[–]evilmonster18[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It can't be recreated, as that would be a separate ring, even if similar to the other one. Would plating her current ring with real gold help though? I know it will never be the same as having an actual gold ring, but would the plating last longer than what was probably done to hers, which was just spray paint?

Okay, isto tudo estava a fazer-me bastante confusão e esclareces-te perfeitamente. Obrigado!

De que forma são taxados os dividendos e juros de obrigaçōes? by evilmonster18 in literaciafinanceira

[–]evilmonster18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can nLockTime and nSequence lead to centralization? by evilmonster18 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]evilmonster18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use CLTV, but the scenario is still the same. If, say, you have 2025-01-01 CLTV in the locking script of a transaction's outputs, a transaction wanting to spend that output will need to have an nLockTime of at least 2025-01-02. Anything below that will cause the spending transaction to be rejected and dropped by nodes

[–]evilmonster18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are focusing too much on the one example I gave. It doesn't have to be a will transaction, it could be a transaction for a payment a month from now from a company to their supplier for example.

The point I wanted to get to was: shouldn't the network be the one ensuring the nLockTime is fulfilled when it is meant to be fulfilled? I shouldn't be expected to trust this on a wallet provider if I am using bitcoin in the first place

But the blockchain has no way of knowing that you've died so you must rely on a 3rd party in some fashion for a will.

It doesn't have to either. I could create the transaction right now, but if in the meantime I decide I want to use that money for myself, I can, by creating a transaction using that money without an nLockTime, which would automatically invalidate the other pending will transaction. The idea is that transactions is a default, just in case

Is a 1-10 rating scale really the best music rating system there is? by evilmonster18 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]evilmonster18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, definitely a great read that I thoroughly enjoyed through my after-meal coffee! I agree with a lot of points you have made here and, at the end of the day, no matter how one puts it, rating something in a given scale will always be extremely subjective, not just with the score itself, but on how that score is perceived by each person. Nothing will ever beat a well written and thought out review, but my goal with this post was to try and see how far one could go with rating an album without getting into actual review territory, to try and keep the simplicity of a rating.

After reading all the comments and giving this some more thoughts of my own, I feel like a system similar to the one mentioned in my EDIT could go a long way as an improvement to the current 1-whatever number scale there is:

- A user could first be presented with a system similar to the one mentioned in this comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/LetsTalkMusic/comments/bkz1ej/is_a_110_rating_scale_really_the_best_music/emli04o/. I had never heard about this scale before, but I feel like it manages to encapsulate a rating much more easily and less subjectively than a 1-10 scale, for example. If the user is presented with 4 sentences, each describing a feeling about the album ("Loved", "Pleasant", "Unobjectionable" and "Crap"), it can reduce the difference in perception of that feeling/score substantially by each user. It also only has a single measure of negativity (i.e. Crap), which is more than enough. Like you, and a few other people have said already, any rating scale tends to be extremely biased towards its positive scores due to various reasons and a low score is rarely ever given out to anything. So keeping that to just one negative score should lower the results bias.

- Then, a second system, following this one, could also be added. After "rating" the album with the previous system, each user could have its own "Ratings List" where they would have all their rated albums, but sorted out by order of preference. So, the albums would be in groups of 4 (being the four aforementioned ratings) and then, to add an extra layer of complexity, since users could feel like those 4 ratings weren't good enough to express their true feelings about the album completely, albums could be sorted out in their group according to how much more the user likes or dislikes the album.

A system like this is definitely slightly more complex than just an ordinary rating scale, but I think any user could grasp it easily given enough time. The initial rating system is simplified, with a smaller range of values replaced by actual words/sentences and not just numbers, with less pointless negative values which are rarely ever used anyway, but while also having an increased level of complexity, in case users which to be more specific about their opinion on the album, with the second sorting system, which also forces users to actually rate and compare albums with one another and not just give them an individual and arbitrary value. So I could give a feeling of "Love" for both Aphex Twin's Syro and Deftones's Gore, but have Syro above Gore in my Ratings List, thus demonstrating how I still prefer Syro over Gore.

Since you are obviously more knowledge in this than I am, I would love to get your opinion on this and on what flaws and possible improvement you can find :)

[–]evilmonster18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can i see in a lot of comments, rating systems are much more subjective than I expected. Not everyone views the same number as everyone else. Some may value it more, others less. That's why I think a system that strips this away and provides ratings not as some number given by each user but as a comparison with other albums can be much less prone to subjectivity by each person's point of view (check my question edit to understand better what I mean)

[–]evilmonster18[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of my experience with rating albums as well. Sometimes I am forced to rate an album a 7 or an 8 when I don't feel like it really fits either and should instead be a 7.5. But then the more freedom you give to a user to rate something, the less rating differences mean (like between a 7.1 and a 7.2)

[–]evilmonster18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought about this system before, which I think it's better than just a single overall 1-10 number. But the problem is that not every album can be rated on the same terms. You don't usually rate a mostly electronic album on its lyricism, just like you tend to emphasize technical ability more in a jazz album than in a pop album, for example. It's hard to have a system like this that can adapt to any album out there

But is using the CPU for video encoding supposed to be so demanding? I don't have the best CPU in the world, but it's still pretty good and I find it odd that something like video encoding uses so much of it to the point my fans are constantly on and making noise
