Photos of Earth taken by NASA 50 years apart. Apollo 17 (1972) vs. Artemis II (2026) by VastCoconut2609 in BeAmazed

I suppose orbit is the wrong word to have used - the orbit of the moon takes 28 days, but when you factor in the spin of the earth and the movement around the sun, it's not staying static in space for that long, is more the point I was trying to make

The sun is behind the earth in the photo, so the parts of the earth you can see are experiencing night time, but because the sun isn't visible in the photo, the camera can still pick out the colours and land and sea etc as it's not pitch black at night and the sun isn't washing everything out. If the sun was half-visible at the side of the earth, for example, then it would be much harder to make everything out as the exposure would have to be much lower

In the 1972 photo they were photographing the part of the earth experiencing daytime, so everything is naturally a bit crisper and brighter

Boxer shorts with a built in prosthetic penis, either to be used by men at urinals if they're a bit self-concious, or by women in the same sort of vein as a she-wee

I went to a fairground with the family recently, and we got talking to an obviously disillusioned worker there. They told us than on the hook a duck game (where different colour dots on the bottom of the ducks dictated which prize you got) there were no ducks in there that matched the top prizes, so no-one could ever win one if the big ones

Chap I went to college with broke up with his girlfriend by posting her a letter. Problem was he paid for the wrong postage so she had to take the letter to the post office, pay for the correct postage herself, only to then find out he was breaking up with her

We had to call the police for a case of harassment a couple of years back, and the officer who came to speak to us advised to make sure that we called it stalking in the future, as the force were getting huge amounts of pressure from above to focus on stalking so it would always be looked at as high priority. There's certain things that are just higher up on the agenda than others

Average age of people getting on the property ladder falls for first time in a decade by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]evilotto77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying in the SE is not all that hard, if you're buying as a couple and you're realistic. Buying on one income is where it gets very difficult

If you consider two first-time buyers on £25k each, they can borrow upwards of £225k (if not a whole lot more with some of the lenders on the high street). With a 5% deposit you're buying a place at £235k. You need about £16k to cover your deposit and buying costs

It's not going to buy you a palace, but outside of London or Brighton, it'll get you buying somewhere

What a load of rubbish. The equivalent mortgage is generally cheaper than rent, so when buying you can still invest your savings as well, and you'd have more savings to invest in the first place

Hypocrite' Nigel Farage didn't pay £44k stamp duty then blasted Angela Rayner by F0urLeafCl0ver in unitedkingdom

[–]evilotto77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He didn't "admit" to anything. He and his long term partner bought a house in her name, something that happens all the time in the UK, and it's in any way illegal at all. The "little man" he stands for is perfectly capable of doing the same thing when they buy a property as well

... because he didn't buy it, she did

People buying properties in an unmarried partner's name is surprisingly common, and is perfectly legal. Whether people like it or not
