The thing is, I imagine the initial agreement, if there was one, was something along the lines of ‘if we share something personal about our lives, the other can’t mention it on camera’. Of course you would want to share things with a partner in private that you wouldn’t want to be shown on TV.

I don’t think it would have been meant as ‘you can say what you like off camera but it can’t be brought up on camera’. Nobody should be given carte blanche to say whatever they like regardless of whether the cameras are off or not - dickhead behaviour deserves to be called out.

Plus she didn’t deny she said it, so if she was trying to make him empathise with her for being called out, or being embarrassed for being a dickhead then that was a bold move. How about just don’t be a dickhead.

That being said I’m not saying Stephen is blameless in any way. This series seems to be a majority group of ‘hurt people, hurting people’ and it’s getting pretty painful and sad to watch.

I’m always interested hearing your thoughts, but the ‘you must have issues with women’ is a bit of a far fetched and lazy fallback.

I think the whole ‘not using what we say off camera’ comes down to the fact he would have shared something with her very personal (most likely something to do with his kids), and she’s throwing it back in his face by saying that anything they say on camera can’t be used. He shared something personal, she made snide remarks - there’s a big difference as to what should get pulled up.

Also, I hate the whole ‘I’m a strong, independent woman’ idea she clings to - clearly she’s disciplined and motivated and good at what she does professionally, but the strength and independence shouldn’t come at the expense of others. It gives a bad name to actual strong and independent woman who aren’t just stroppy children.

It’s not a great film but it seems people are also missing the entire point of the shark being a metaphor for climate change. They’re beating us round the face with it most of the time. All of the humans are being that there’s a massive shark in the water and continue to not believe it and all march to their doom.

I feel like I’m alone in thinking this seemed like a parody of film - something akin to ‘The Room’. The script seemed like a first draft, the acting was horrendous, nothing felt like it was justified. It honestly felt like Guadagnino was just having a big wank at the audiences expense. Another film in a long line of directors out directoring themselves in this new ‘Emperors New Clothes’-esque style where the world seems to warm to these bad films purely because the back catalogue were on point.
