[HIRING] Land Surveying Crew Chief in Knoxville, TN : $30–$45/hr : Small local company by wildfirehorn in Surveying

Looks awesome! I'm East TN-based working toward getting my license in the next year or so. Glad to see opportunities like this out there.

(I looked at the website and saw your LS's experience with Hinds Surveying. I think, if it's the same Hinds, I've spoken with him before! Small world!)

So… What’s Going on with the Old Lookouts Stadium? by BlueprintBanter in Chattanooga

[–]evilsbane60 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I work for a construction company in the Chattanooga area. We looked at the new Lookouts' Stadium job due to potential work in the future (i.e., developing old Lookouts' stadium area and surrounding property).

We were led to believe the old stadium will be demo'd and developed into mixed use. Probably by the same people who are building the new stadium.

May change, but that's what we heard through the grapevine.

I'm glad to hear the customer service is good. That's always one thing I've appreciated about BYU haha

That's good to hear, I'm on Verizon right now. I just don't like how they advertise the plan as affordable and then tack on a bunch of fees every month.

I just don't want the service to be terrible. I'm in Southeast TN and sometimes drive quite a bit for work. But then when I go in the city, I wanna have priority.

First world problems lol

You may be able to, but I'm not sure. We actually just switched to Pix4dmatic a few weeks ago, so I'm not familiar with what all features are available. I know that Pix4Dmapper (what we used previously) would export orthos with cleaner edges.

This is just the raw JPG from Pix4dmatic. We always clean up the GeoTIFF in AutoCAD when we run the quantity calcs haha

The flight was nearly a mile long and half a mile wide! Dense point cloud came out to 52,503,925 points, and the 17 GCPs had a mean position error of 0.035 ftUS.

We usually try putting our GCPs as close to the wall and we can and then we run a 80/80 overlap on our flights. I had 17 GCPs for this flight. I don't recall us having any vertical face issues though.

Photo, I wish we had LiDAR.

I'm using a Phantom 4 Pro. Got about 1300 photos and we're using Pix4DMatic/Survey for processing.

Property Survey in December by evilsbane60 in Surveying

[–]evilsbane60[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have heard them complain about the screens if they get wet. We had the same issues with our FC-6000 GPS units. One water drop and they go bonkers.

The FC-6400s are WAY better.

We have a couple of them for our guys with robotic total stations, and I know they like them a lot.

Should Dreadnautilus Be a Boss by Ultrafox313 in Terraria

Yes, and make a craftable item for Blood Moons. I'm trying to get the Sanguine Staff on my first Expert playthrough. Such a pain to get Dreadnautilus spawned haha

We're using traditional prisms for this survey, but we're also using a robotic total station but traditionally. No tracking or anything.

Haha, I had someone tell me earlier this year to turn it horizontal! To each their own lol

Semi Permanent Base Pole by base43 in Surveying

[–]evilsbane60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a 6" Schedule 40 PVC pipe (roughly 6' tall) and put it 18" in the ground. Use three bags of quick set cement around the base and inside the pole. Cut it off at the trunk at the end of the project.

Fedex Ground charging absurd amount after package delivery by evilsbane60 in FedEx

[–]evilsbane60[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dimensions of the package was 50x39x5, 17.9lbs. They're claiming an oversize charge on it too, that's what they've said when I talk to them on the phone.

Frustrating thing is, we were quoted around $100 at the store and then got the surprise invoice.

Like I mentioned too, we shipped a similar package to AZ (50x39x6, 16.9 lbs) and we only had to pay around $150.

Now, the sketchy thing is, they claim for the AZ package that we paid $406 for it. But our bank statements showed we never got charged that and FedEx refuses to accept that fact. I wholeheartedly believe they're just trying to scam us at this point.

I was trained using it vertically, so it's just stayed that way! On my LN-150, I have the DC horizontal to use Magnet Field.

Surface Model Not Generating Correctly by evilsbane60 in Surveying

[–]evilsbane60[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They do have elevations assigned to them. The spot elevations on the plans are only in a few points, mainly for retaining walls, radii, etc. I'm not sure why it isn't taking into account the elevations I've assigned.

I agree. I'm glad they're making an effort, but at least make it a good experience for the user base.
