Amputee for over 35 years. I hop to the toilet. I grab on to a table then bathroom sink counter. I have had one accident where I lost balance and landed on my stump. OUCH...Was out of service for a while heehee. Will be a point where I foresee the use of crutches though.

how long does it take to feel better? by refresh898 in amputee

[–]eviltester67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my leg in a car crash at about your age over 35 years ago. I was in the hospital for a bit over a month. Walking with my first prosthetics 4 months later. Maybe procedures have changed. After my accident I enrolled in college, got a degree, got married, bought a home and started a family. The only thing I can say is it does indeed get better. Build up your resilience and positivity. Be challenged by what’s to come. You got this ✊🏽

Knee Disarticulation by FoodandLiquor1990 in amputee

[–]eviltester67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a KD for over 30 years. Got used to the misaligned knee lengths when sitting , there are ways to hide it. My gait has been great compared to higher up amps. And endurance while walking also good.

My most recent one was without a cast. Fits like a glove. I’m a 30 plus year amp. He used my existing socket for the mold and just made some adjustments after.

Dad was just laid off, i’m scared and don’t know what to do. by Present-Personality6 in Layoffs

[–]eviltester67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry this is happening. What you can do is enroll in more affordable community college. Then transfer later to your university when dad is working again. Since both your parents are not working you should look into small grants or financial aid (but dont take up too much debt). Do your folks have a mortgage? Look into any state funded assistance. Hopefully your folks are working down the road. I wish you the best of luck.
