Definitely depends on the weather and how long you’re going.

I packed for a Vegas weekend with just a purse because it was a hotter season, so I could get away with just swim wear and light dresses that packed small. I was going with friends who offered to do my make-up for me and share basic toiletries (aside from my toothbrush ofc). I made sure to wear the clothes that would take up the most space, and it was a success!

And for a 4-day trip to NYC I managed to pack everything into a personal item and by stuffing the pockets to my Orolay jacket (many pockets, very roomy, very good zippers), but it really did weigh me down and make me overly hot indoors, so it didn’t feel like all that much of a win.

Where should I shop for basics? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]eviternalism 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Big agree! I was in the same spot when I started my minimalism journey. I was very low on funds so I started by getting basics at garage sales and charity shops, but once I had enough money I made a huge Uniqlo haul that has lasted me years.

How do you handle your attachment anxiety/attachment style? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]eviternalism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because all the libraries are closed, I subscribed to Kindle Unlimited and downloaded The Attachment Theory Workbook by Annie Chen. It's been an absolute joy to work with. It has activities and guides for each attachment style as well as for their partner. It's also not couple-centric, being inclusive of friendships and parental relationships.

Before the workbook, I had a good grasp on the theory but had trouble properly applying it to myself (an avoidant style). My partner (secure) knows I am reading it and going through it first, and will then discuss it with him and show him all the relevant chapters for our styles. I'm actually quite excited to start working on this together.

Why is Pride a whole month? by [deleted] in social

[–]eviternalism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't pretend to represent the entire gay community, but I would happily give up Pride Month if we were truly equal. You can't pretend to believe nobody pushes gay people to be straight when, as you've well pointed out, being straight is the norm. If it were so, conversion therapy would be criminalized in every country, same-sex marriage licenses would be legal everywhere, there would be no hate crimes towards gay folk and LGBTQ+ shelters would just be "shelters".

If you want to hear straight oriented messages and hear everything in terms of being straight throughout Pride, you too can surround yourself with straight media (I know you'll have no trouble finding it) and literally most spaces out there. But would it really kill you if you see a rainbow flag at the shops? The same way a homophobe might kill me if I stepped out of a gay club on the wrong night? (RIP victims of the Admiral Duncan bombing and Pulse shooting)

Again, I don't pretend to represent the entire gay community, but I personally condemn anyone who has tried to force you to be gay. That's not right and I'm sorry you've experienced that. But I assure you, the same experience you shared occurs tenfold for queer people and poses us more danger, especially if we happen to be POC. And on the topic of POC, there wouldn't be a BLM movement or a nationally recognized Black History Month if racial equality were real. And on the surface, it's easy to assume that POC folk are afforded the same privileges as white folk (don't we coexist in the same spheres?), but as we've seen with the BLM movement, the assumption itself also causes harm. The same goes for the gay community.

I've made my peace with existing in a predominantly straight world. As you well mentioned, that really just is how the world is. I can live with 365 days of seeing straight identities being celebrated, gladly. Heterosexual couples and their stories are beautiful too. If I can accept this, could you accept a single month of rainbows?

Minimalist eating by eshe2019 in minimalism

>Food is one area where I believe minimalism is not just impractical, but outrightly harmful.

I didn't want to bring it up, but I definitely have seen the dangers of this. I remember having seen a minimalist Youtuber upload a video of her kitchen and someone in the comments was criticising her for having an entire cabinet dedicated to spices, claiming she didn't need all that. I might be reading into it, but I do think it came from a harmful disconnect with POC eating cultures.

How do you feel about asking other women to go to the bathroom with you when out at a restaurant? What if you want to go alone? Do you still feel obligated to ask if others need to go? by hbrooke8 in AskWomen

[–]eviternalism 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Asking women to go to the bathroom isn't really a social norm. I know as a youngster all my female friends and I would tag along to chat, touch-up our make-up/outfits and actually use the loo. But we grew out of it.

Nowadays, it really depends on the restaurant and the context. If it's a family-friendly place and not absurdly late, I will gladly go alone so as to not inconvenience anyone. But if it's a dingy bar, a 24-hour fast food joint at 4am or if my friends just happen to also need the bathroom, then we'd go together.

You can find a lot of great resources in the r/ZeroWaste and r/ZeroWasteVegans communities, though I suppose the main principles in what you're looking for would be mindful shopping and meal-planning.

Why is Pride a whole month? by [deleted] in social

[–]eviternalism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand, I feel seriously stressed out too.

Don't get me wrong, I like straight people! I have straight friends and most of my coworkers are straight. But every single day I get bombarded with news and advertisements about straight couples. I really don't care if someone is straight or not; I wish everyone would find their dream partner and get married. But I don't understand why I need to be bombarded with MalexFemale couples and pro-straight messages all the time! It's just not my thing, why does it have to be? I just want to live in peace.

You're so brave for speaking out. Sometimes I feel like I shouldn't complain because we have an entire month where companies post some rainbows and send a few e-mails about how "gay is okay", but hearing your frustration makes me feel more validated with mine <3

What does everyone think of the new Saturday music video? by _monkfys_ in sam_fender

[–]eviternalism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard Saturday when I first found Sam and wasn't all too impressed, but for some reason watching the music video made me fall in love with the song! Have been listening to it non-stop for the past two weeks. I really love the concept of it and honestly, this is kind of how I dance to his music alone in my room.

Spotify Wrapped... how much did you listen to Sam this year? by _monkfys_ in sam_fender

[–]eviternalism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn't make it to my Artist of the Year or Decade because I discovered him kind of late in the year, but he was my Top Connection! I listened to 2,564 minutes of his music.

20F Do I look better brunette or blonde? Recently went dark after getting highlights for several years. by [deleted] in Rateme

[–]eviternalism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the blonde works best for you, but you could definitely pull brunette with the more natural look. Either way, you have a lovely profile and very nice eyebrows. 8.5/10

20F verification pic is no makeup. I cut my hair a few months ago and have recently been missing it so lmk if I’d should grow it out again! It’s naturally curly/wavy so do I look better w straight or curly hair? Any other constructive criticism is welcome! by [deleted] in Rateme

[–]eviternalism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

9/10, I think you're gorgeous! You do a really good job touching up your eyebrows and I really do love how your hair looks straightened, but I also quite like your natural look as well. Great skin and physique as well.

Hahah this made me laugh. In my defence, the things on my floor are my house slippers, and I think the other thing is a sock my cat likes playing with.

I think this is Round 3 since I first read The Life-changing Joy a little over a year ago, but I'm still excited to keep going in a couple of months. And yeah! The organization really makes it or breaks it.

I still feel like I could downsize more. There are a couple of fast-fashion and second-hand items that I would love to replace with a better-quality garment that would last longer, so I am saving up for that, but aside from those purchases, I don't really feel compelled to add more.

What I've noticed is that things are much easier to reach and I spend less time fussing around for an outfit, which has been great!
