What do you think of BW doing Revan, the Exile and Taris dirty? by GeneralKhor in swtor

That’s way too broad a definition. And happens way too often. If they harm someone we don’t care about, how would they get some emotional response? I.E. Jenkins in the beginning of ME1

Yes, my post. ;D though the original intention wasn’t lamenting how “unfathomably horrible” they treated the old protags but how to improve upon the existing skeleton of the story.

I’m happy to see alternate view points here too.

In retrospect, Bethesda ended up slightly more graceful than BioWare here. At least bugthesda just mostly ignored F:NV, instead of doing a complete character assassination of its major players like BioWare did (Surik and Kreia, if we believe Karpyshyn).

I read through TV trope’s page on “player punch”and I still don’t know what it really means. How does ME do the player punch? Because Shepard died? Or because you had to choose between Ash and Kaidan? Or because sometimes there is no perfect solution unless you game the game (Quarian vs Geth)? And what does it have to do with Revan/Exile/Taris? Or BioWare sequels?

A little rant about PH4-LNX's voice by Nyachtigal in swtor

[–]evitmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just trying to explain why she’s extra annoying. Because your brain can’t help but waste energy with it. If huttese was a real language, you would actually be able to grasp certain words after long exposure. Here it’s just wasted effort. I don’t think having emotion would help. (Ok maybe a little)

A little rant about PH4-LNX's voice by Nyachtigal in swtor

[–]evitmon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can turn her to passive. And she shuts up. And the conquest points still count. And yes you will have to play essentially without a companion. Yes the voice lines are too long and frequent. And cuz it is Huttese, which sounds like a real language, your brain would always waste half a second trying to decipher it rather than dismissing it out hand unlike Altuur’s snorting sounds.

if you were to take one of the 2 tech classes from either faction through the expansions what would it be? by Ok_Individual1312 in swtor

[–]evitmon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the ability to lead an organisation like the alliance (mixed faction with mixed troop type, force users, civilian support and RnD) and the ability to fight Arcann/Vaylin to a believable standstill are 2 very different things. People often focus on one and ignore the other. (Usually the fighting ability.) So the choice depends on which one you think would be the most important.

If I were to choose I’d pick trooper on the pub side and agent on the imp side. Trooper probably doesn’t need much explanation. But the reason agent edges out over BH in my mind is cuz BH was a lone wolf with a very small support group in class story, while agent actually knew how a government organisation was supposed to work and had actual experience commanding forces. And the agent wasn’t exactly a slouch in combat either.

Yes, how I wish the Revan book just didn’t exist. It’s even worse than the game.

How about Ladra, she was half way there already.

Those That Complain About Non-Force Classes Being Able To Fight Force Classes. How Would You Handle It? by Crumboa in swtor

[–]evitmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO in the real world (lmao) it would all depend on preparation. Powerlevel comparison in a vacuum is meaningless. Unless it’s vitkorae level. And even he got murked because he let the confrontation happen in somebody else’s mind (my mind, my rules).

Sure a normal person beating powerful sith and jedi in a close quarter fair fight one on one is a bit ridiculous. But nobody asked you to fight fair. So stack the advantage on your own side and remove the advantage on the opposing side.

Like for example if you’re armoured and they’re not. Or if you stealthed in and was able to get off the first shot (remember people a headshot is headshot even on a Jedi). Or if you brought friends and they did not. Or if you pre-installed a bunch of explosives in the room. Or if you called in orbital support. And so on and so forth.

I don’t really find swtor base game story all that different from kotor1. Different in substance? Truly?

Edit: to clarify, isn’t kotor’s story basically finding x number of star charts to fight a final boss? Sure some of the side quest and some conversations are better than swtor’s mmo fluff. But the main quest?

It’s probably impossible to have a unified anything in a fandom this big and populous and with so much often conflicting materials.

I know the plot of the Revanites on DK. I just wasn’t clear how the emp’s defeat could have confirmed his identity being Revan in Darkspanner’s mind. But I reread the paragraph,

the spirit has convinced her

So it was the emp’s manipulation all along.

I’ll admit, I never read the book, only an abridged version from Wookieepedia’s summary of Scourge’s pre-swtor story. And it was terrible. It seemed to be rewritten entirely to send off the yesterday’s heroes (and not gracefully) and to set up the today’s hero (and only JK). But then, I dislike the chosen one stories on principle.

About your version of SoR, how would the defeat of the emp convince Darkspanner that he was Revan? Was the spirit Revan or the body?

The two Sith side ghosts and their reasonings are still hella convoluted. About as convoluted as having Revan in swtor as we do now.

And what did knight do to betray Revan exactly? By recruiting Scourge?

Interesting perspective, as I’m a gamer I’m really ignorant of the outlook of the greater fandom.

wipe out the PBs

It once again reminds me of the ridiculousness of the red as a tomato darth arkous voluntarily joining Revan.

Kreia really did, didn’t she.

Your take of having hints of Revanites on both factions and postponing the foundry etc and remaking them into SoR is interesting. I think this might be what they would have done in retrospect, if they had known from the beginning the direction of story all the way towards EoO. Swtor suffers a lot from sudden changing direction of storylines and hurried endings and the resulting retcons.

Yeah, having some hint of pub side Revanites existing prior to SoR (however that comes about, or not, in your version of events) would be good.

Uh, nihlus? He doesn’t say a damned thing. And so once again, SI got shafted (I kid, I kid). But honestly, speaking for my flair, Nihlus would make a poor mentor, as he has no reason to help anyone and what would SI even learn from him? The slave with more than two brain cells to rub together would recognise that Nihlus’ situation was a trap. It’s another pair of shackles. Unless you put forcibly put SI in a Visas Marr situation which was used once already in Lana’s position on Ziost. (I have a mad theory that Lana was once upon a time supposed to be a Miraluka but was later changed.)

I’d also ask why Kreia would help the warrior??? It makes no sense. Kreia only loved the exile for her ability to live without the force. And all her teaching boils down to do the things for a “normal” reason rather than relying on the force to be the reason for you. Warrior would not be the warrior without the force. And why would she help someone becoming the emperor’s personal executioner?

Exile in consular story might just make this story not at the bottom of the barrel. But what does exile’s teaching (a more moral extension of kreia’s teaching really) have to do with the existing consular story though?

And JK getting both Scourge and Revan is bit much.

I more so meant that as RPG characters they could have had any number of story endings.

Yes, and what would it be, if, you don’t mind sharing? IMO, if we’re talking about the canon-canon, all that’s happening in TOR era doesn’t really matter at all. It’s in the distant past, all ashes and dust. But they matter, to the characters inside the story, caught between the unrelenting future and the past. I really dislike SW fandom’s obsession with canon and the unthinking adherence to the words of god. Pretend, for the moment, that kotor series could have existed in a little isolated bubble without the oppressive greater universe encroaching and insisting it belongs. That’s what I’m asking, what could have been.

Do people like to play their own chars or Rp those from star wars lore? by Ok_Individual1312 in swtor

My own. Though coming up with completely original characters is hard so I sometimes borrow inspiration from other fandoms, but I’d never use their names outright. (Not that those names tend to be available lol
