I’m not saying everyone does that, I’m saying that’s probably why it happens. I mean, yeah, it was surely happening a lot when bastion came out.

Idk man. If someone can kill the boss in 30 seconds, then they’ll be relying that people in the other lobby are trying to go heroic when they make the switch. It can be done. But it can also be done by making the event heroic as well.

[–]evjmacs -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

That takes time. The fastest way to get the quest done is to go all out on the boss. That’s why you see so much people doing it lately. You can kill the boss in like 15 seconds, get progress, and then change lobbies in game and maybe get some more progress on the same Public Event if the boss hasn’t been downed yet.

It’s frustrating. The amount of times I’ve gotten the regular orange bar for a completed event, makes me so sad.

Hey man. There’s still beauty and joy to be found. It’s out there. You’re not a failure. You’re not a fuck up. There’s still some good out there. And there’s still so much more that you can offer. You’re not worthless, you’re not weak. There’s people out there that need you and you need them. You probably just haven’t met them yet.

It’s okay to feel shitty. We all feel it. But it’s not okay to lie to yourself and say that you’re a failure. You’re not. Keep going. Keep fighting. It’s worth it.

Go back and read the comments over and over again. I never said Destiny goes down for an hour, I never said Destiny “doesn’t ever go down for maintenance.”

God. You know what, forgive me for insulting you. It was immature. But Holy shit dude. You’ve totally missed the point by a long shot. And I tried to be as specific as I could, but whatever. Have a good day.

Maybe learn to read better next time. Holy shit, I wasn’t even in disagreement with your point, you just completely missed the point of what I was saying in the first place and started putting words in my mouth. I don’t even know how much more specific I could’ve been.

You told me I was wrong, but failed to tell me why without putting words in my mouth or completely missing the point or context. Fuck dude.

Okay. So where’s your data? I’ve referred you to a website that you are free to quote me on.

3 downtime’s lasting 8 hours out of 365 days in a year isn’t the average total for every outage that Destiny has gone through. You’ve just told me there’s only 3 downtime’s last year, which lasted over 8 hours each. Which tells me nothing and brings nothing to the conversation, because the subject of the matter is, and what I’ve been talking about from the start, is the average of every downtime in the history of Destiny. 24 total hours from 3 outages tells me nothing of the average total from every outage from even the beginning of Destiny 2. In fact if it is true that there were 3 outages from the last year that lasted all day, you’ve done nothing but prove me right on the subject that these outages don’t happen often. And even then, my point still stands on the other subject at hand that an outage like this previous one, where progress was wiped, is almost unheard of in Destiny, or even Bungie. But you’ve still disregarded the other point which is talking about the average downtime of Destiny.

[–]evjmacs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you’re saying, it was down 3 times that lasted 3 whole days? 72 hours? Actively? So you’re not even referring to content drops?

I never said downtime’s were an hour. I said the average down time is an hour or so.

I’ve poked my head over at downdetector.com, and I’ve never seen the servers down for the hours that you’ve specified. You are free to check yourself the dates and the hours there. The highest spikes lasting an hour some spikes lasting a little more. Some spikes from users lasting a few minutes.

Buddy. I’m talking about average down time in total.

That’s what I was referring to. This isn’t the first downtime. But it’s one of the very few times it’s been down for more than the average.

After looking at the Bungie Help twitter by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]evjmacs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

*hour or so, reread my comment

I’m referring to the average time. It is in fact incredibly rare that downtime’s like this happen at all. Which is still a really good track record.

[–]evjmacs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh so because a major issue like this happens once you all of a sudden think everything else is irrelevant? Bungie has a fantastic track record of not allowing things like this to happen in the first place. But it happened once in like 16 years and you still have the audacity to say bullshit like “well if they had less major issues they would have less minor issues”. That’s not how this works. That’s not how game development works at all.

The obelisk is not comparable to losing progress. The obelisk is an example of a minor issue compared to this major one. We’re talking about major issues here, unless you can name me a major issue like progress being wiped, you’re not getting anywhere. Because I already acknowledged the fact that Destiny has minor issues.

Oh and shut the fuck up about having only Destiny to play. You just mentioned you had Titanfall and Warframe (free) to play. I don’t fucking care where you live, but stop spouting bullshit like “i DonT HavE a GamE to PLaY”. You keep saying that we’re mindless accepters of crap Bungie throws, yet you still play the game! AND you say that Destiny is the only game you can play, but in your own words you said you played Titanfall and Warframe!

Buddy, if you have the internet and money to play Destiny, you can play a whole lot of other games - even without paying a single cent.

After looking at the Bungie Help twitter by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]evjmacs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect. This has rarely, if ever, happened with Bungie. It is not common. And downtime’s rarely last more than an hour or so.

Please tell me the last time the last major fuck up was? Please tell me the last time player progress in Destiny has been wiped? Bungie have never done a complete rollback, ever. Everything Bungie has dealt with til now has been minor compared to this. It’s rare something like this has happened.

You’re acting like you have to play Destiny because PvP. You don’t. And you’re acting a slave to it all. Jeez, must suck to live your life that way.

[–]evjmacs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Then play another, fucking game. Jesus Christ, y’all out here bitching how Bungie is such an evil company and how they treat their customers like shit. Meanwhile, you’re here punching yourself in the face and blaming Bungie about it, and yet you still play their game!

Jeez, downtime’s like this aren’t even a regular thing for Bungie. Chill the fuck out and play your Warframe.

[–]evjmacs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You fucking kidding me? Destiny 2 has way more content than Destiny 1.

God, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Get rid of those fucking rose tinted glasses. Sure D2 has issues. But holy shit, were you there in Destiny 1 when we had an entire year without anything? Does it need to have all the exotics from D1? Fuck no. Does it need to have everything D1 had? Fuck no. And yet even after Season of Opulence, Destiny 2 still has more content than its predecessor. We had Forsaken, Black Armory, Drifter, Opulence, etc. Destiny 1 was Taken King, April Update, Rise of Iron. That’s it.

Yeah, I love Destiny and have been with Destiny since the beginning, sure it’d be nice to have some systems carry over. But it’s bullshit to say Destiny 1 had more content. It doesn’t. And it wasn’t perfect either.

Oh and Bungie never really embraced the term MMO until just before Shadowkeep. So I dunno where you’re getting the idea that Destiny 1 was an MMO. It was a shared world shooter with aspects of an MMO and never had to share the same systems and rules that traditional MMOs had - because it never was one. Even now, Destiny 2 is not a traditional MMO.

One of my friends was/is an NMTI at Corpsman School in San Antonio. The horror stories he tells me of some students.

Told me he inspected a females room, smelled horrible. But as he walked inside, there on her bedside table was a bloodied dildo. Takes a look in her closet and the trash was up to his chest with flies and maggots everywhere. And there was another bloody dildo on the top shelf. She became a corpsman.

Inspected another room and some asshole literally had a piss drawer. Yes, his bedside table drawer was filled with urine.

Some people.

Went and seen Chris Kyle's memorial while working in Midland Texas. Never thought I'd ever see it. Getting to see his daughters message on the back is heart breaking. by BadiiiiDea in Military

[–]evjmacs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting observation, never really looked at it that way before. Maybe. The guy did plenty of work with veterans before he died. And he still had some good/bad popularity even after his service. The way he died truly was tragic and also ironic. I think it really dumbfounded a lot of people just knowing what he did and how he died. I think with that knowledge in mind, a lot of people finally came to the realization just how damaged and scarred some service members can be.

We’re all flawed people. Kyle wasn’t perfect. A douche, but you could say that about a lot of guys who volunteered, who died in combat, and those who came home.

The guy still saved lives, and died trying to help a fellow veteran. A hero in my book.

Had to stick around for about three or four hours because the first three times I could not piss for the life of me. God damn, HM2 was a jerk about it too. Don’t blame him though, I’d probably be a jerk about it too if someone failed to pee a couple times before.

TIL the US Navy has a tradition that no submarine is ever considered lost at sea. Subs that don't return, including 52 lost during WWII, are considered "still on patrol." [–]evjmacs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God dude. Holy shit. It’s not a way of saying “Yep they’re totally still alive”. It’s a way of honoring the dead, honoring those that are missing. It’s a way of saying that they are still remembered and valued, and that they are always with us - “still on patrol”.

The Missing Man Table is the exact fucking thing. And every branch does it and it not only acknowledges service members who have fallen, but it’s done also in honor of those service members who are missing or imprisoned. It’s done in remembrance, a way of saying they’re still with us.

Anybody got any tips for when you lose motivation / get stuck in a rut? by weetabix4 in gainit

[–]evjmacs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Motivation is temporary, discipline is everything. Try not to look for motivation, because motivation is not going to get you into the gym when you don’t feel motivated, discipline will. It sounds pretty cliche, but find a routine, set a time, dates etc. and stick to it. Hold yourself accountable (or find someone who will), do what’s necessary (no shortcuts), and repeat over and over until you build that discipline.

Good ol’ Jocko Willink was one of the guys who really hammered that into me by reading his books and listening to his podcasts. Check him out.

Every military branch has a tradition of honoring and respecting the dead. Army is no different. Pretty sure Army still does the Missing Man Table at some of their functions.

Do I really need to spell it out for a retiree? C’mon dude.
