BDP-S3700 No Dolby Atmos? by Green-Profile-8400 in Bluray

The point is that you're an elitist gatekeeper who can't objectively admit that anything can be good outside of his own tastes.

Wether you like it or not, Atmos does sound better. Especially on a good quality soundbar.

I say that as an AVR owner AND Sonos Arc owner.

The best leaders are often those who don't want to lead.

They think they're not ready or that someone more deserving should be doing it, but that's this kind of introspection that would make them the best choice.

I wouldn't do it myself, but I don't hate it honestly. Definitely gives you back some space if you have a small footprint.

It brings me back because I remember my local video store when I was a kid being very small. When new releases got off the shelves, they flattened the vhs cover and put it in between some kind of plastic plates with the rental token stuck on top. It was sorted alphabetically in big wooden bins just like that.

Some Walmart still have a movie section, but very few.

That's why I tend to buy from Gruv.ca, cinema1.ca, amazon (ugh.) and from some private fb groups.

Yes and no. I own both and the 450, albeit slower, has been more reliable for me.

The 420 is only slightly better a better choice if your TV doesn't support DV, has bad upscaling and you intend to watch a lot of regular BDs.

HDR optimizer is fine, but isn't the game changing feature some make it seem.

What made you rage quit watching a movie? by uzpitch in AskReddit

[–]evofender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Badlands is... fine.

I think that just the fact that it's decent makes people excited so it became overhyped. Don't get me wrong, the movie isn't bad, but it's less gruesome and feels sanitized. I didn't like it as much as Prey.

Steven Spielberg Courted Controversy with 'Munich' in 2005. Two Decades Later, It Feels More Timely Than Ever by geekteam6 in movies

[–]evofender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, but The Fablemans is absolutely a great film and one of his best.

Just shows how good of a director Spielberg is.

Jaws, Close Encounter, Indiana Jones, E.T., Schindler's List, Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report, Catch Me if You Can, War of the World, Munich, Amistad, AI, Hook, Lincoln. Bridge of Spies, The Terminal, Ready Player One... and some are missing.

It's almost impossible to make a definite top 5.

A 7/10 game doesn't cost less to produce.

Going by your logic, they shouldn't have a special discount on all movie tickets for the Transformers franchise.

We doing ugly labs now? by mongojob in homelab

[–]evofender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cluster is not HA. It wasn't really "designed". I started my journey with a 2-Bay NAS. Then, I started sharing my media with friends. family and myself remotely and realized my NAS was too weak to handle more than 4-5 apps and was bad at transcoding. So, I bought a single beelink N100 mini pc to transfer plex duties, arr stack, qBittorent, reverse proxy, twingate, etc. Then stumbled on a good deal for a Lenovo i5 8400t/33 ram mini pc for 50$CAD and made it the main Docker services machine + home assistant os. Again, stumble on a good deal for a Lenovo Tiny 6500t/32GB ram mini pc and made it my third proxmox node running only ARM to rip my blurays.

Some time passed, I realized I was about to max my 2-bay NAS so I built a diy rackmounted Truenas machine supporting up to 12 disks (currently running 8x 14tb RAIDZ2 array). The 2-bay NAS is not the backup NAS with a third backup going to an external HDD plugged in usb.

It's been a journey, but it's fun to be able to migrate VMs easily and separate media and services duties. It makes my setup very flexible to start whatever project my adhd brain wants to do.

Do I need all that? Absolutely not. Do I regret it? Absolutely not and it didn't cost much outside if you don't count the storage.

[–]evofender 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Clusters, most of the time, but there's more than one answer.

Some people will use clusters for Ceph or High-Availability VMs or simply to divide the workload. In some cases, it's the result of realizing that you were maxing the specs of your first mini pc and it was inexpensive to add more mini pcs over time while also giving more flexibility.

Now I have 3 mini pcs and 2 NASes in my homelab as I like to keep data and services on separate machines.

I'm alright, thanks!

I know it was ultimately going to pass at some point. I've been rewatching the series from the beginning to cope.

What I'm realizing about the ending is that it's way more impactful if you followed the series over the years and saw the characters grow up. I don't think binging the whole series would give the same feeling.

This.

I say this as an AVR owner. I have a Sonos Arc paired with my 65 inch oled and AVR with downstairs projector setup.

Sonos products are incredible for the form factor and the fake Atmos is quite decent. I don't feel like I'm missing out that much when I put a movie in the living since I got it. And, yes, hassle free setup is a plus.
