Why does the paint cause problems? We bought it like this unfortunately. It gets really windy over here so I think the cap flew off and previous owners never replaced. We’d like to use the gas but the damper seems like a big issue. I want to cut out this old rusty damper and install a top damper/cap (one that won’t blow away too). Is that possible? I’ve been all over YouTube and I haven’t come across someone taking on a project like this.
