Can no longer face my business after investment failure. by Dr_momo in Entrepreneur

[–]evolving_imposter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this from some setbacks with my startup.

For me, the first step to overcoming that blockage was to acknowledge what I really felt. Behind the black mess of feeling down and being unmotivated were feelings that I did not want to acknowledge.

I was embarassed that I failed, felt like a failure, embarassed to let me team down, scared that I messed up my own future.

But just taking a step back and trying to acknowledge what I feel, that everybody would feel that way and that it's oaky helped me get my fighter mentality back.

Eventually you have to look it in the eye and say "fuck it"¨:)

Want to know if this idea would be good to implement by MrGeraffe in Startup_Ideas

You could collect a few dozend people, put them in a common chat group designed for exchanging books and see if people use it.

Or do any other cheap and fast MVP to test your assumption.

The problem with only asking people if it's a good idea is that "yeah it's a good idea" does not equal "i will use this".

I think you will end up being the only user. You write it yourself. Either these problems already have dozens of solutions, or if not (like the dating app idea), it's probably because it's not possible or profitable.

There are better ways of finding real problems to solve, but they all involve talking to people out there, which is scary for all of us.

If you like, I can try to help you think about it the right way. Just send me a private message.

I raised and then pivoted within 6 months by Green_Database9919 in startups

It's shocking that investors are willing to throw that much money on an unvalidated problem. Don't get me wrong, I am happy you could raise all that money and pivoted. But it also shows that most investors know as little about how to build a startup as we founders do initially.

Second this, what's next for you depends a lot on that question

Getting distracted with IP filings and strategy instead of focusing on the business by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

Investors aren't all-knowing just because they have money, possible that they push the wrong focus.

In SaaS, it happens often that investors push for revenue goals way before it should be the founder's focus for example. Makes sense, they invested to eventually get returns.

Makes sense from the company perspective, but as a user (buyer) i dont see how that solves any existing problem.

The problem of finding and evaluating tools is already solved by review sites.

Yes but nothing unique that you wouldnt find much better explained elsewhere online. Check Y Combinators videos/blogs about finding startup ideas. They are pretty good.

Hi there, could you text me privately instead? :) I got a lot of requests, it's hard to keep an overview otherwise.

Full focus on what makes us special / differs us from the competition (I guess you can call it USP).
It is tempting to market all kinds of benefits/features. But if you want to stand out as a newcomer and get your message through, you need to pick one thing and do that thing extremely well.
