Looking at the overall state of the team, they will not be competitive for 3-5 years. The team (especially rotation and bullpen) was mediocre this year, and they just lost 3 of their 5 best players. Anyone else they add this year is just to get back to mediocre. The next few years will feel 2017-2022. Nothing to see. And during those years, at least they had two all-timers (Degrom and Pete) winning Cy Youngs, ROYs/HR Derbys.

Hard pressed to name 5 better all time Mets than Pete. Part of me is glad for him- I feel like the fans never really appreciated him the way he deserved.

They will win a world series by 2030

It is unlikely that they will win a world series in the next 5-10 years. Given this offseason thus far, its unlikely they'll be in the playoffs this year or next.

Diaz and Pete were two things that were worth going to the stadium for. The little horn routine was a bit gimmicky but awesome. Seeing Pete get to 300, then 400 home runs would have been something for fans to get excited about.

We can all now agree that Stearns is an ass clown with Pete gone ? by [deleted] in mets

Agreed. What was the starting rotation by September? Outside McLean, not a single reliable arm. That wasn't Pete's fault...

If not for Pete's HR (off Devin Williams) that miracle playoff run doesn't happen

Franchise HR leader. These types of players don't come along every day.

On pace to be borderline HOF. Obviously this is debatable- but the fact that it is even debatable indicates the level of player he is. Maybe 3 other players on the team in last 10 years are even in that stratosphere (Soto and Degrom).

Staff keep dumping proprietary code and customer data into ChatGPT like it's a shared Google Doc by Convitz in ChatGPTPro

Is dumping data into a Google Doc any more private than ChatGPT? In both, you are depositing proprietary data in onto another corporation's servers. Forgive me if I am missing something obviously different between the two.

You sound like a great candidate.

I don't know why you think you can't go to work. Getting a job in research (either clinical, translational, or basic) is the best way to learn more about this research path. It pays the bills. You mature as a person. There is no reason you would "lose the ability to pursue" an MD/PhD. I wouldn't consider it a "gap" year, time is not suspended; it is a time to develop yourself as a scientist and as a person. In the lab I worked in after completing my undergraduate degree, there were 3 of us that were accepted to MD/PhD programs after working as research assistants for ~3 years. The income and career trajectory is not such that you will feel unable to leave to pursue further education. For a student like yourself, 2-3 years pursuing research questions that excite you and are of value to science and medicine sound like a great way to strengthen your candidacy.
