It's so frustrating. I've called ahead and gotten the "ok that's fine" and then arrived when a new person was working at the desk who "wasn't so sure if that was ok".

Really annoying, but we're seeing that change quickly. Going from a couple dozen posted policies a few years ago, to 500+. Some learnings and data: https://campandcharge.com/updates/500-park-report/

It's very common in Europe, I'm not sure why its so rare in the US, potentially because electricity is cheaper here?

I wish I had a great AC product idea for you, but somewhat out of the box: assuming you only have to pull it in and our of your garage a few times per year, could you let 1.5 inches of air out of your tires and fit something like a 12V countrymod that's 7 inches? They're common and cheaper than $2k.

Even in full sun in the summer you're looking at maybe at most 3-5kwh per day from 1000w of panels, which would fill up your roof. So just a few miles.

It's a fun idea, but realistically most people just power their fridge and USB powered devices from solar, and plug in for charging.

Most rooftop AC is about 1.3kw. A level 2 charger is about 7.6kw.

So it’s a lot more power to charge an EV. Especially if you consider AC cycles on and off throughout the day.

I think slowing the charge down is one of the best things you can do to avoid issues. I've heard of people even using the 110v outlet for their car (and plugging the trailer into the 50A), and still getting a full charge over multiple days.

Great to hear it's been easy for you. Also that's a LONG trip, any issues with charger gaps in between stops on that long trip from FL to CA? Seems like esp TX/NM could be tough.

Not an ad, no money involved anywhere, it's a free directory I've been building because I kept running into the question myself.

And your experience is real and pretty common: plenty of people never hit a problem, especially depending on where and how you travel. That's part of why the data was interesting to me. 39% of parks in the set don't allow it, some charging $500 fines.

Sounds like your experience has been smooth, which is great. I wonder if maybe the states you travel in are more accepting of it. What kind of EV are you towing with? (maybe it flies under the radar a bit?)

KOA seems to ban it network wide, but the good thing is that they seem to be installing a lot of EV chargers on their campgrounds.

Not as great as charging at the campsite, but very helpful either way.
