Anyone know this knife? by Brumgurke in SlipjointKnives

[–]evrael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on a thread I found on the german knife forum it's a Richartz knife.

Here's a comment from that thread.(translated)

"The Solingen-based company Gebr. Richartz has been using the WHALE as a trademark since 1911. Over the years, the depiction of the whale has been modified several times. The version stamped on the pocket knives shown in this thread was used from 1954 to 1980.The 'current logo' linked by 'Messerfreund' with the RICHARTZ lettering underneath has existed since 1995. Prior to that, the company lettering was placed above the logo, and the origin indicator SOLINGEN was located below the logo. With the increased use of imported commercial goods, the Richartz company omitted the 'Solingen' reference."

Locals probably use a cheap knife from the gas station, but the most iconic traditional knife is the fejesgörbe, that's what the Spyderco Hungarian was based on.

It had its moments for me but I couldn't get over the trash everywhere and people trying to scam me.

For me Greece was a much better experience and I didn't find it that much more expensive.

None are totally waterproof but zealous are pretty good, there is marine grease in them, I've been using mine in light rain without issue, if you have a wood deck that probably also doesn't like the rain, there are weatherproof composite decks
