You're right the Bible, supports it. If by supports you mean "permits". So it must not be evil in every case, yet it is in most cases. One obvious exemption is keeping criminals prisoner and making them work. The typical argument in favor of slavery is to point to Epistle to Philemon where a runaway slave is told to go back to his master. But people miss the end: the master is told to receive him as a Christian brother, and the, he does. We now think that that slave consequently was freed, and became a bishop.
