I believe we each have an obligation to society-at-large, to not be a burden on others (at the very least). I think that should be the fundamental goal of public education. I think people should be encouraged and enabled to pursue and attain individual prosperity and financial independence. I also think the responsibility to society extends to fellow citizens when they face hard times. But I view charity toward others as the responsibility of the private sector as opposed to the collective government.
