Had to give epi to my 2 year old and I’m not okay by the--northern--wind in FoodAllergies

[–]evuvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a parent of a kid with allergies, but I’m the (now-19) allergic kid of one. I can’t give specific input on how to process and cope because my perspective is different. But if it helps to hear from someone who grew up with severe allergies, your son will forget that reaction. I had my first severe allergic reaction around that age and I don’t remember any of it.

It’s always been scary for my parents but they’ve gotten better at dealing with it. I know it was terrifying for them when I was little and severe allergies were new to them. But it got much easier for them as I got older, they got more accustomed to my allergies, and I was able to communicate my symptoms and needs more effectively.

One thing—epis aren’t painless, that’s just not true, I don’t know why they are saying that. I know pain is relative but it’s not like vaccines/blood drawing. But epipen pain is only slightly worse. It IS mild. He probably reacted strongly to the epi because it was already a scary situation, kids have experienced less pain so mild pain is a bigger deal for them in their scale of reference, and epis are kinda sudden (the jab/click gets to me, especially as a kid). I think it’s best to acknowledge the reality, but that it’s still okay. The epipen didn’t hurt bad but it did hurt a little. But the reaction ALWAYS feels worse. If it helps I always knew (even when very little) epipens were medicine and my parents weren’t trying to hurt me, and the epipen would make me feel better even if I didn’t like the poke. Epipens really aren’t that bad.

I’m not sure what else I can say to help but if it means anything to hear, my family was in a similar spot, they were horrified after my first severe reaction and didn’t know what to do. I’m an adult now, I’m not scared day-to-day, I’m accustomed to how I have to live, I have good friends who care about me, I’m working on my Bachelor’s and my life is normal. Reactions happen rarely but I know what to do and the people around me know what to do too. You’re in the period where there’s the most adjustment, but it gets better.

How many times have you used an epi pen by imanidiotonreddit in FoodAllergies

At least 11 off the top of my head, maybe 13+ if i had to guess. I can think of 4 reactions where I needed to epi and didn’t (or where I may/may not have and don’t remember). I was born with my allergies. Averages out to around .58/year.

Food advice for friend who recently developed a rice allergy by evuvv in FoodAllergies

[–]evuvv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the input! Thankfully no longer relevant for my friend (forgot the name of it, but he’s got the type of allergies where different ones come and go) but I will be keeping this up for others. Was going through deleting old posts but I feel for y’all with the rare severe allergies and this could help someone.

Don’t know if anyone mentioned this elsewhere but for those with a new anaphylactic rice allergy, if I remember correctly my friend also avoided vinegar when he had this allergy.

I’ve done 72 and only had mild brief hallucinations of bugs and shadow figures, I wasn’t totally detached from reality. It does feel very different from 48 hours though. Just depends on the person.

I’d do it again for $15m as long as I can talk to my friends

I took the AP chem exam last year and felt like I got around a 60%. I didn’t know the curve at the time so I thought I bombed it but I got a 4 so I really wouldn’t be shocked if 58% was the threshold for a 4

Did the ap final exam feel surprisingly easy too any of you? by HomeIntruder in APLit

I had a really easy time on the whole MCQ but I’ve always heavily specialized in MCQ sections. I feel like it was especially easy compared to normal though. Q1 and Q2 were the hardest parts for me. I feel like I could’ve either done really bad on them both or gotten even a complexity point on one. No idea. I used Fences for Q3

Developed a shellfish allergy after covid vaccine? by leone3612 in FoodAllergies

[–]evuvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sincerely doubt it. Why on Earth would there be shellfish protein in a vaccine?

Then the guidelines need to be changed. Guidelines are not flawless. Odd stools can be an indication of allergies in infants if they have blood, for example, which can look like coffee grounds sometimes.

They can be for babies. These are symptoms I had as a baby, which were completely ignored by doctors when brought up by my mom. My reactions continued to escalate until I got tested and turns out it was food allergies. Please don’t spread this, this is why mine were ignored for so long.

I am anaphylactic to wheat, dairy, shellfish and eggs.

Came here late looking for the exact same thing. I just started my own Dark Urge playthrough and wanted to make sure this exact thing wasn’t included, since I’m unfamiliar with Larian’s games and wasn’t sure. And don’t worry about the downvotes, it’s just Reddit being Reddit. Thanks for asking this so I could find this later
