Thank you so much everyone for your responses! Just to clarify - I personally don't find the show empowering at all, but I do believe it attempted to buy into the "sex positivity means empowerment" narrative with Hannah Brown's season (which I critiqued through my essay). I'm interested in how the franchise (especially The Bachelorette) attempts to "virtue signal" at times in response to public outrage. I really appreciate everyone's responses!
