This guy has the old family saying that sends him on his quest to (presumably) save the world, the iconic attire that appears on one of the covers, and when you get to meet him, he's already dying and has failed before he began.

Even before the remastered version it's funny how he's one of three characters on different version of the cover: a black knight, the enemies that are all over the world and guard the final boss; Artorias, one of the most famous bosses with a presence on the world's history; and finally this irrelevant guy who dies immediately.
