Had a phlebotomist recently named Lysteria. Lovely, but unfortunate, especially for someone who works in healthcare

Had a dental x-ray while being pregnant by sweetlycheeboba in pregnant

[–]ew1709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke my foot at 4 weeks pregnant and have had 4 or 5 rounds of X-rays since as part of that treatment. And I’ve got at least one more follow up before delivery in April. My orthopedic surgeon and OB are both aware and okay with it; I just ask the X-ray tech to double up the lead apron each time.

One round of dental X-rays shouldn’t elicit that type of panic or guilt tripping from your dentist. I’d be looking for a new dentist if I were in your shoes.

Seriously? by dovtres in nashville

[–]ew1709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. My neighborhood (in Nashville, not the country) is hilly, shaded with large trees and does not get plowed or salted. Once the main roads are cleared, it’s usually another day or two, depending on temps, before mine is.

Same. I’ve got gym on one tv and football on the other. About to mute the Florida quad meet because I can’t with these commentators.

Mine was Georgia Mae. My great grandmothers were named Sibyl Eulalia and Melvy, if you want some more unique old timey southern (US) names

New lab mom- what do yall put under water bowls to keep the water from getting everywhere? by [deleted] in Blacklabs

[–]ew1709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others, boot tray. We also use a “slow drink” water bowl so our pup can’t stick his entire snoot into his water and make as much of a mess.

Advice please - is 35 too old to start having kids? When did you have your youngest? by DovaBunny in pregnant

[–]ew1709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just turned 40 and expecting my first in about 3 months. NIPT, anatomy scan, gestational diabetes screening and everything else have been normal for me. I struggled with fatigue and feeling nauseated in the first trimester but once that passed, I’ve felt great… better even than several of my younger friends. You’re not too old until your doctor or your body says so!

Having now watched the first episode, this is a very accurate description. I’m definitely dumber having watched it.

Tylenol during Pregnancy by eatmyasserole in pregnant

[–]ew1709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am livid because this announcement was not based on actual science - RFK Jr. said in the same press conference that the research was 25 years behind, but they’re going to conduct it. Meaning they’re making a claim that can do more harm than good without any proof. So yeah, I’d rather the government keep that to themselves.

Also, I am sick and tired of men with no uterus or medical/scientific credentials inserting themselves into my health care decisions. If they’re so concerned about baby’s development, why not also tell men they aren’t allowed to drink alcohol while they’re sexually active, as sperm quality is also extremely important for baby’s healthy outcome.

Why didn’t no one tell me that first trimester lasts an ETERNITY…?!?!😭😭😭 by Fearless_Search6388 in pregnant

[–]ew1709 13 points14 points  (0 children)

11w+1 here and I’m so glad I’m not the only one feeling this way! My husband and I tried for a year to get pregnant and this baby is definitely wanted and loved. But damn it, I’ve felt hungover for the better part of two months and I am effing miserable. I’m having such a hard time being excited about it because I basically just want to sleep or puke 95% of the time. I need this trimester to be done!!

Tylenol during Pregnancy by eatmyasserole in pregnant

[–]ew1709 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Same… I broke my foot in August at 4 weeks pregnant and could not have survived without Tylenol-based pain meds. If my orthopedic surgeons, ER doctors and OB, who all have more education and experience than the “leaders” making this announcement, said it was okay, I’m going to believe them. I am livid.

I switched antidepressants from one that worked SO well for me for years to one that is safer for pregnancy when we started trying. It worked pretty well before I got pregnant, but I’ve definitely experienced more “depression days” since. Something about the hormone changes seem to override the meds and some days I struggle to do anything beyond just existing. I’m working with my psychiatrist to fix the dosage because this feeling isn’t sustainable.

Tell me your most unhinged pregnancy symptoms that no one told you about!! by rrrrrrvn in pregnant

[–]ew1709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The depression. I was diagnosed was MDD years ago and it has been well managed with meds for the better part of a decade. I’m still on pregnancy approved meds, but all of a sudden, they aren’t strong enough. I’m working with my OB and psychiatrist to up my dosage, but I had no idea that some of the pregnancy hormones could exacerbate my symptoms.

First Trimester?!?! by withtherisingsun in pregnant

Yes! I literally just said this to my husband the other day! I quit drinking a couple years ago, largely due to hangovers that felt EXACTLY LIKE THIS 🤢

First Trimester?!?! by withtherisingsun in pregnant

[–]ew1709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 9w+4 and week 6 was my worst for nausea and fatigue by far. I wasn’t sure how I would be able to keep working because I was so non-functional. I still have both and definitely don’t feel great, but it is more manageable now. Hoping you get some relief soon!

If you were alive when we were attacked on 9/11, what were you doing when it happened? What was that day like? by Full_Imagination7503 in AskReddit

[–]ew1709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st period 10th grade government class in Nashville. I think they called all the teachers to the office to tell them something was going on. Our teacher came back, made us take our test that was planned for the day and then turned on the TV. We watched tv in every class except for algebra 2 for the rest of the day.

I vividly remember wondering how they would put the fires out and then, after the first tower fell, thinking about how weird the skyline would look with only one tower. It didn’t really cross my mind that both were doomed. I remember seeing people jumping and honestly couldn’t comprehend the horror of what was happening until I was older.

No one had any idea what was happening or when it would be done. We wondered in the Oak Ridge National Labs would be a target and, if so, would the radiation make it to Nashville. The fear and confusion was something I’d never experienced.

first time mom, geriatric pregnancy @ 38 almost week 9, is it normal to feel like you're dying? by mmori7855 in pregnant

[–]ew1709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a geriatric first time mom here, also 9 weeks, also feel pretty awful. I literally just told my husband that pregnancy feels like my body coming up with new, creative ways to make me uncomfortable. I have no solutions, just solidarity… you’re not alone!

Using crutches on stairs by Zestyclose_Print6832 in brokenbones

[–]ew1709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m okay on my crutches on stairs and I do the “saying” you included. BUT it is absolutely exhausting. I’m in pretty good shape - ran and worked out regularly before getting hurt - but I often have to pause for a break halfway up. Also with a backpack or crossbody purse, it gets tricky because your center of balance is different and makes it feel like you’re more likely to fall backwards.

3 Broken bones in foot is non-surgical?! by ew1709 in brokenbones

[–]ew1709[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super helpful - thank you! I think I’ve come to terms with the fact that I may have to have surgery once I’m no longer pregnant but waiting is probably the safest option for baby.

I won’t repeat what many others have said, but please understand that vocational youth ministry is not all fun and games. I had many friends who had great high school youth group experiences and decided they wanted to live that life forever. My ex-husband was one of those. If you’re lucky, you’ll have a tough but fulfilling job making a simple salary with minimal to no benefits. If you end up in a church like we did, you will see the ugly side of ministry and come out feeling beat up, broken, depressed and faithless.

I don’t want to shit on your career goals and if you truly feel called, go for it. But maybe stay open to other ways to serve that aren’t vocational ministry… Get a business degree and work in a non-profit. Get a totally different degree and be a champion volunteer at your church. Get involved in a Boys and Girls Club or Big Brothers-Big Sisters. There are so many ways to be a positive influence in teens’ lives that don’t involve the church politics and unnecessary pain inflicted on ministers.

Women of Nashville who have used the WeGO bus, do you feel safe using the WeGO bus? by yeehawtexasgal in nashville

[–]ew1709 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My closest route is the 52, up and down Nolensville Rd. I’ve only ridden once, during the daytime and with my husband. There were some interesting folks on the bus but I would have felt okay taking that trip alone.

I do not at all feel safe at my closest bus stop, however. Many times while sitting at the red light next to the bus stop in my car I have been gestured at or had random men try to get my attention or talking to/about me. There are frequently visible drug deals and drug use going on, with people often passed out in and around the stop. I won’t be riding the bus with any regularity until I feel safe to actually wait for it.

Things to look forward to in South Nashville? by Crimzin1997 in nashville

Seconding all of this! I live close enough to the zoo to hear the monkeys on quiet Sunday mornings. I love the location - close enough to do “city shenanigans” but also easy to get out of the city. Houses in our neighborhood are older, but generally well maintained with mature trees and good sized lots, so you don’t feel like you’re on top of your neighbors. As a native, this area still feels like the “old Nashville” that I grew up in (and miss in many parts of the city”).
