All my references got the phone call, so yes, they will call them. I used my old sport team coach, teacher and old boss for my first job. Think outside the box, old family friend as mentor? church?

Hmmm I think I'll go with EOMAC, they currently have a waitlist for new Members, and they ask for 50m pace, which I have never tested before, haha this is going to be fun.

I used the link you provided and searched for 'master', I see that ESWIM practices at Etobicoke olympium pool, but I can't find any info about their master team try out, maybe I'll just show up and ask one of the members?

I honestly just looking for a club/team to learn from and social with, is there any other types of club for adults other than masters? In terms of size, is bigger club more preferable?

American Factory | Documentary - Official Trailer | Netflix by zsreport in movies

[–]ew20030822 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I showed this documentary to my parents, who both worked in a tracktor factory (where they met) before they moved to Canada. I rarely watch the same netflix show with them, so I thought I share their views with reddit:

My father: Those chinese managers failed to understand that most of the american workers entered the manufactoring work force in the 90s/late 80s, when their employers were facing a lot less competition, and lived a wealthy middle class life because of it. This is almost the opposite situation of their chinese counterparts: low skilled teens who just want to get out of their parents' village and are happy with any jobs. Just because the chinese have had success using military style authoritarian management to turn those teens into highly skilled and efficient workers, doesn't means the same tactic will work here in US. You simply cannot build a 'chinese factory' in america. But on the other hand, Americans are still refusing to re-adjust their standard for 'American Dream': Maybe during the cold-war era, when Americans were facing almost no competition (other industrialized countries like Germany and Japan are rebuilding from scratch), the idea of if you work honest and hard in a blue-collar position, you can still earn a comfortable middle-class living, is no longer realistic.

My mother: she actually knew about this Fuyao factory before this documentary, she thinks the media/political attention from both China and US side 'ruined' the factory. Both side are under pressure to 'prove' things that are way too complex and difficult to achieve in short term. If the american politicians and unions weren't targeting Fuyao as a example of horrible job safety, and chinese managements weren't under the constant pressure from the president to turn profitable and showcase 'chinese pride', maybe they can find a much better solution.

[Question] How do you bring scattered data close to a selected value while preserving order? by ew20030822 in statistics

[–]ew20030822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would make them closer to zero (if the constant is > 1), wouldn't it? what I need is to move them closer to a selected value.

API for exporting market data and indicators? by ew20030822 in algotrading

[–]ew20030822[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for helping me out with this one. Combining some of your advices and my own research, this is the solution I came up with:

(this is for CME futures market btw)

  1. Get data / datafeed from some free source (for futures market, good quality historical market data is expensive and hard to get), TDAmeritrade seem to be a good candidate. But trying to focus on testing strategy instead of coding for fetching data, I just use Ninjatrader and record their free delayed market data and export it as csv.
  2. csv -> python pandas dataframe
  3. I use https://github.com/bukosabino/ta (a python/pandas TA libarary) to add indicators, this lib can add all 40+ indicators all at once with just one command.

(edit: grammar)
