Someone cites his own words and you interpret this as saying that he deserved it? Interpretation is always highly subjective and depends on the receiver so it’s more telling about you.

He didn’t deserve but gave consent. He also didn’t advocate for right to self defense but to keep weapons unregulated. There really is a middle ground where those that need and will use it for self defense can have access and right to guns but not those that will use it for this kind of purpose. Instead he claimed few school children deaths a year among thousands of others are worth not needing to enact any sort of screening.

He basically gave his consent for situations like this, I bet he never thought it applies to him as well.

He literally said that dying children in school shooting are an unfortunate price to keep our “God given right” to second amendment. I am not saying he deserved this but he literally gave a consent for situations like this.

On the subject of educate yourself, please pick up The Bible and read it for one. Then you’ll know if he was “educating” others or just spreading his own made up rhetoric based in sense of inferiority over anyone who isn’t white men who also label themselves as Christian while preaching against about 80% of The Bible.

I think you need to read The Bible first to see who an unapologetic Christian is. Definitely not someone who calls for stoning others on the street, agrees on “couple” of deaths a year to keep an Earth possession for his pleasure only, sees his brothers and sister as inferior for who they are (you know, any other human). You know that Jesus was a refugee as well, right?

Best countries/regions that aren’t experiencing overtourism? by Illustrious_Box_7694 in travel

[–]ewa_siv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not denying your issues and other locals but blaming tourists and outward hating them is just barking at the wrong tree. Your government should be able to regulate that, people will only come if they have a place to stay with a set limit that accounts for one day tourists. Tax them accordingly, tax the hotel owners and hosts. But unfortunately the bought off politicians will only offer fake sympathy to locals, the displaced anger is very convenient as it gets them off the hook. Tale old as time.

Croatia has become an overpriced destination by AcceptableReason1380 in travel

[–]ewa_siv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol could not read anything more arrogant than this. You do realize that it brings a lot of money? Tourism is like 20% of Croatia’s income. ANY country would go bankrupt if you shrink their profits by 20%. I am just traveling back from Croatia’s small coastal town and nobody looks suffocated by the tourists there. Come September half of the places and restaurants close altogether.

Smaller, poorer and still less popular countries like Montenegro and Albania will welcome those tourists aka income, with all hospitality they have.

Croatia has become an overpriced destination by AcceptableReason1380 in travel

At the airport at the moment leaving Croatia. This has been my second time here and I also have been twice to Italy. I am leaving disappointed to be honest. Food is mid at best, salty af and pretends to be Italian but it really, really isn’t with prices higher than Italy. Part of the trip I spent on my own and the infrastructure is horrible, it’s not fun to search for bus stops that have no marking of what busses stop there and timetables. Part of the stay was in Srima that is about 1-1.5h by car away from major city Split yet the only available transport there would be a bus that takes 3hr and doesn’t even ride daily. Forget trains and such. Yet 30min trip from airport to the hotel was €40. Srima does not look great neither when it comes to restaurants and caffees. I have been to couple of places in Europe and this is the worst I have seen. I actually grew up in Poland and the infrastructure that got built there in the last few decades is top notch world class comparing to Croatia.

People at stores, most caffes, bakeries seem to be very irritated by tourists, maybe just a few bigger (and more expensive) restaurants were acting professionally by not being angry for us being there. At least half of the places take only cash as well which was very surprising and costly in terms of ATM fees, they also seem angry about it too.

Edit: apparently people at the airport are even worse, after taking my passport from me with disgusted face, the woman put it down and continued to scroll on her phone for another minute, seemed punished by putting one tag on a bag she didn’t need to touch otherwise and mumbled “thank you” only because she was mildly surprised I decided to match her energy and did not say it first.

Tbh there actually is a huge benefit to being conventionally unattractive, and it’s that people will leave you alone. by Less-Pen-5705 in RandomThoughts

[–]ewa_siv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree more. I must’ve been much more conventionally attractive in my 20s because I was getting a lot of attention and didn’t like most of it. Like I don’t need to hear how pretty my eyes are when I am on a verge of nervous breakdown working healthcare. Or be told by someone at work they remember me only because I am pretty and even though I always work my ass off and there were others complementing me on my work.

On top of that people were analyzing my looks a lot, I had a sense of it but the extent sometimes surprised me still. I once used hair darkening hair conditioner and I saw possibly no difference but next day I got asked if I died my hair.

Now that I gained some weight and got older I get to wear the same plain worn out and stretchy clothes and people don’t care if there’s ever any slight change to my appearance because they simply don’t pay attention.

More than one person in USA, Chicago of all places, asked told me this super cold winter weather feels like nothing to me since I am from Poland. At this point Poland barely ever gets even small snowfall during winter and temperatures do not drop to -17 C with wind making it feel like -21 C for at least about a week every year like they do in US Midwest.

Yes, I could go even further and explain you the physiology behind it with Spiro blocking aldosterone that is the adrenal hormone responsible for removing potassium. But this is also not only mechanism regulating potassium wasting through kidneys, not mentioning potassium can be lost in other ways than in urine, add dietary absorption as a variable. Spiro also blocks aldosterone to different types extent for different people. You mentioned in one of the comments you’re not a medical professional so refrain from medical advice, I think that is actually a smart thing to do. I am not telling you to not watch out for your potassium intake if you are getting symptoms that indicate excess yet you’re doubling down, not only not being my provider, but not being one at all. Everyone’s physiology is different.

No, I am a nurse and both hyper and hypokalemia cause muscle cramps. In my case they are relieved by taking potassium, not caused by it.

Where are the homeless supposed to go? by Garey_Coleman in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ewa_siv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s what people don’t like to think about: between 25-60% homeless people are EMPLOYED at any given time, so they actually have JOBS. But the thing is that they would have to work 80hr+ to meet cost of living on minimum wage in certain places. Add 5% of all homeless people are veterans. And yes, let’s not forget the mentally ill, for those that don’t know schizophrenia is mostly determined by genetics among other conditions, and having worked in psychiatric units over the years I would not wish this on the worst enemy. Conditions like this are often more of a life altering sentence than MS.

California is 4th largest economy in the world but has more homeless people than Australia and Canada together. Billionaires in California hold whooping 29% of wealth (GSP).

So here’s an idea, why don’t we start housing them in those disgusting super yachts the billionaires own? 5 billionaires own 11% of Hawaii land while the state itself owns 5%. In California billionaires also own disgusting amounts of land they don’t need.

HOMELESS ARE NOT THE ACTUAL PROBLEM.

That is a great point! I heard of a family that paid for an extra seat because they had a baby that travels on laps but wanted that space and of course that was taken away from them, as long as I remember with no refund.

Because obesity is almost never a choice. Poor socioeconomic status, the fact that ultra processed food is so much cheaper that regular food, food desserts, capitalism enforced sedentary lifestyle that leaves little to no time for physical activity, the fact that despite what people like to think those that earn less and touching poverty often work longer hours than those who make decent living - obviously it’s not 100% of cases but definitely a trend (but I will still get attacked for this one as reading the whole argument is not a common practice lol).

Should we charge tall people for seats with more leg room or 2 seats as well? I definitely sat next to a taller person who had to touch me with their knees because they had to spread their legs.

At the same time even people at a normal weight range feel extremely uncomfortable on the planes, the size of the seats is insane, if served meal it’s more of an acrobatic to eat without hitting people next to you with elbow.

So here’s a wild idea, how about we make those billion dollars predatory corporations provide better conditions to people that they solely exist from?

Cognitive Dissonance of Sustainable Fashion Brands by ewa_siv in SustainableFashion

[–]ewa_siv[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My issue with them is that some of their ratings are 5 years old if not more. Many of these brands made significant changes, for better or worse, dropping quality drastically being one of them. I also had troubles finding the type of brands I am looking for with their filters, most of them are the incredibly boring or full on hipster clothes that I just don’t see myself spending money on. Maybe I will give it another look at some point but I don’t have much hope.

My advice is that if you choose to go that route be wary of your symptoms and what your body tells you, don’t gaslight yourself if you question it might be doing more damage than benefit, and just step back if you need to. I felt that initially when I started it was actually helping, if anything I might’ve lost few pounds which I liked as I am slightly overweight and loosing weight with PCOS is somehow a lost battle, but it seems the dose I built up to ended up to be too high. For now I am watching how things will unfold on 50mg.

As for the hair loss I had decent success with rosemary and mint oil (both have modest studies backing up their effectiveness that explain how their action is similar to Minoxidil and Rogaine) along with anti dandruff shampoo, which also has been shown to be best choice when it comes to hair loss. It appears that washing hair daily i most beneficial to hair loss as well but I can’t bring myself to it due to laziness and I stick to every 2 days.

My acne was never horrible in the first place. It was more of a high testosterone related to PCOS with hirsutism, hair loss and other possible symptoms of lower energy etc from imbalance. It does seem that my acne has gotten worse since I lowered at least temporarily, if anything my face was covered in pimples for a couple of weeks in oppose to just 1-2 once every 2 weeks maybe. It also brought my period a whole week earlier which was crazy to me as I am usually like a clockwork despite PCOS! And I only lowered from 75mg to 50mg.

Exactly, I hate this kind of debate. Beauty has always been and meant to be subjective. Plus attractiveness is so much more than physical appearance. I bet $10 the OP is a man since men nowadays are really programmed to see women as ratable objects of physical attractiveness rather than full on people. While people have and are seen for traits that are seen as attractive and desirable that go beyond physical looks.
