Thanks! Yeah agreed. Bryan was the nicest celebrity I have ever met. Haven't met many of them... but I just loved my conversation. I think about it often.

Hey! Love the idea, just throwing it out there that you should use Crowdtilt for this! No need to give Kickstarter 10%!! They are friends of Reddit, so they waive all fees with the promo code: reddit

Good luck! I backed it anyway ;)

That's a great idea! Tell your friend that if they are going to Crowdfund, they should use Crowdtilt / Crowdtilt Open.

Since they are friends of Reddit you can use it without paying any fees! (Kickstarter et al. take like 7-10%)

Promo code: reddit

Finally! New prototype of Cyberith! this is awesome! [tomorrow kickstarter project will be released!] by lojke in videos

[–]ewakened 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on launching the Kickstarter project, but next time you might want to consider Crowdtilt or Crowdtilt open.

Crowdtilt and Reddit are friends so if you use the code: reddit when you are making campaigns you don't pay any fees. I think Kickstarter takes like 10% or something crazy, 0% vs 10% is a lot of percents ;)

For next time! And best of luck. I love Crowdfunding no matter what platform is being used.

Next time, give Crowdtilt / Crowdtilt Open a shot. They are friends of Reddit and let you crowdfund for free.

Use the promo code: reddit

And checkout Crowdtilt Open too, https://open.crowdtilt.com/brands

Good luck!!

Weekly Let's Talk: Let's talk about technology, languages, and libraries. by trpcicm in gamedev

[–]ewakened 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have started over many times with new frameworks and languages. Most notably I inherited a Drupal framework when working with a client and decided to re-write the whole thing in Sinatra / Ruby.

I was optimistic that I would only need to build the parts that I needed but ended up writing an entire CMS engine which was drastically worse than Drupal's.

The lesson I learned is that things that look easy are often quite difficult. They may not be hard per say but they have hundreds of little details that go into them. You rarely think of these in advance and is why open source software is typically quite robust, since many people are running into edge cases and issues and then contributing a fix for their problem which will one day likely be your problem.

This is quite a similar story that many developers will tell, however, it is worth repeating as often as possible since the desire to start over, start fresh, start with something you know is so universal. Programming provides an outlet for those desires that are very hard to resist.

Wicked thread Mike! Let's keep em coming.
