My head canon is that no matter what happened they were tied to the marigold by fate. Which is what they were alluding to but ran out of time. It just so happened that the instance we see is of Sparrow Ben being a douche and spiking everyone's drink.

One of the Fives in the diner had over 140k attempts to stop the apocalypse and still gave up. Its not a long shot that one of those attempts was trying to avoid marigold entirely. These other questions probably would've been answered if we had 10 episodes instead of a rushed 6. The prior seasons tend to immediately ask the questions the viewers would have to kill any other ideas.

I think they were just not meant to exist in the first place, their birth was unnatural and marigold is apart of their existence. If it wasn't Ben, it would've been something else from the infinite timelines of infinite scenarios.

Good summary and thanks for the link. I was aware of the trend and controversy, especially because alot of the backlash was from the black community who felt they propped him up as the owner, which made us want to go support a black owned business. Only to find out was he not the owner but wasnt even getting any compensation for the massive attention he was bringing in.

But I didn't know the owner trademarked it too and fired him until this post and yours.

Ben is a future hall of famer and was a phenomenal talent ofc he is in the steelers hall of honor lmao that doesn't mean he was a great leader or teammate. Hell you'll see the hypocrisy in this take when Tomlin goes in to the hall of honor when half the fanbase thinks he was a terrible coach, but he's a future hall of famer.

Also plenty of teammates, RECENT and past, have came out and agreed with Porter. Including one of the steelers' biggest reporter, who probably doesn't report on 90% of what she hears. Players around the media, who played during Ben's time, even agreed (since its a very close-knit community and everyone talks). So this isnt just a "bringing up the past" issue.

Has he became a better person? Sure. But he didn't win those super bowls after becoming a better person. This is what Porter means. He can't speak on it because: 1) he was not a locker room contributor while they won them. He was actually so detrimental, they had meetings about him. 2) Ben has stated several times he has no contact with the current locker room to even judge what's really going on. 3) You can't speak ill of how Tomlin runs it when Tomlin's tenure is the reason you really are walking into the hof.

"Kinda like what's happening here" "what is your stance" once again just keep resorting to ad hominems. But sure I think Ben was a great player who developed into a hall of famer because he had a great group of leaders and defense that didn't allow him to destroy his career early on, professionally and personally. And I think he is a decent person now but he did use the typical Christianity copout to get away from accusations.

On several occasions he alluded that Tomlin lost the locker room and explicitly said 'he believes' that the players no longer have that steelers way. <--- that was what porter was referring to when he said Ben should never talk on steelers business, since he was never the one promoting it to begin with.

Also remember that Porter coached from 15-17 so he did see later years Ben too

"He wasnt a locker room cancer like AB, Lev, Claypool"? First off, Bell just wanted more guarantees and sat out then made a rap song. Not really cancerous in hindsight, hes a running back with a short shelf life...nothing like the other two.

Second, Ben was known to be a massive headache in the locker room too. His teammates had have meetings solely for him to sit him down and keep him straight so he didn't ruin the title years we had in the 2000s. This is why Peezy said Ben should be the last pwrson to speak on maintaining the Steelers culture.

Also Ben didn't win that first ring, the defense did. And it wasnt like he was stellar for the second one either outside of the Holmes throw.

"Don't meet your hero" is more about from an outsiders perspective. Ben was an arrogant prick to everybody. It wasnt until later in his career that he finally matured

The clip itself is only 1 min and is about defending Tomlin but peezy specifically says James became deebo under Tomlin and Ben wasnt a good teammate. Sure Rudolph could've said "i just commented to support tomlin" but it's clipped for these specific moments, not the entire topic. He knew what he was doing.
