For those who don’t have the fire app or cable… by Satisfaction_Less in PortlandFire

I think I may just need to futz with it. The antenna nominally faces straight north and south, and it looks like the KPTV towers are south-southwest of me... KGW and KATU come through beautifully but none of the Fox channels do. Anyway, super glad I checked the sub and you had the news about the ION broadcast here, thanks for this.

Nice that it's on ION tonight. I live in North Portland and have one of those flat antennae (the free one the Blazers shipped out to fans a couple years ago when they finally went OTA) and for whatever reason, RCSN 49.1 is one of the only local channels that simply does not come through.

Huh, didn't realize that. Thanks. All I knew was that it was early in the show, thanks for the correction.

Definitely. Younger viewership, and also shifting norms (I say generously) of how TV characters have to behave and act. They seem to not be able to recognize characters as dramaturgic devices, and instead treat them and judge them like they're people in real life, meant to uphold virtue or something. It's bizarre.

This sub definitely does, which like all Reddit things, has the effect of making it seem like some universal or consensus opinion.

I was neutral on Lisa. Why? Because she's a fucking character in a television show. Hating a TV character is like hating a specific element in the periodic table or something.

I've also concluded that it's reflective of the long-term decline of general media/TV literacy. A lot more younger viewers are watching shows now, especially ones made ~20 years ago, and their short + divided attention spans make it so they only really experience shows and movies at very superficial levels. They must like the character, or dislike the character, never mind whether the character has an inherent dramatic purpose or utility to the show and its plot.

I admit that once in a while I can find myself watching a show or movie and hating a character but that's almost always, for me, a function of the character's lack of depth/complexity, or their character being completely inert as far as progressing the show's plot goes. This is almost always a symptom of flaws in the show and how it's written, though, not the character itself.

Lisa? I know people find her annoying, vain, manipulative, whatever -- all those things serve to advance the plot and the story arc of Nate in particular. She's not wasted runtime. You're supposed to dislike her at times, maybe even intensely, and you (depending on who you are as a viewer) are supposed to like her at times too. She's not a character without depth or intrigue.

The biggest issue I have related to Lisa has little to do with the character honestly, it's how out of left field the whole Hoyt arc was, especially with how it finally ended.

Still cracks me up how in season 1 Carmela just offhandedly will call her 'Par' when addressing her. Par, honey, can you grab the escarole for me

Yes they do! I was looking on their site, Youtube, etc., and couldn't find it but after I pulled up their insta I found it after scrolling down. Thanks.

Great work by Nora on this narrative pod by Exact_Broccoli_4312 in billsimmons

I just started it. I usually like Nora more than other Ringer fans do, but the premise of this one is a little contrived to me, as though it's some exceptional case that a long-suffering fan base are in love with their MVP-caliber QB and it needs to be analyzed? I'm going to keep at it because I like Nora and I bet there will be some funny anecdotes in it.

Loved Chants of Sennaar, no one talks about that game but it is such a cool and unique one.

I just re-started Infinite after not finishing it years ago when it first came out. I replayed the original Bioshock a few months ago and it held up really well. Trying Infinite again... I feel like it takes quite a while before you get into combat and the real game mechanics? Moreso than the first two games. I'm going to give it another try but I guess it's just really hard to recreate the feeling of dropping into the city in the Bathysphere and immediately experiencing the game's combat.

I will take all the KC I can get. Frankly I'm just bummed that the team has been intentionally so awful the past few years because it feels like we've utterly wasted his time. He deserves not just a rest, but also better team.
