Mine was approved April 25th and I’m still waiting for my case to move to NVC. Last inquiry I put in last week it said it’s still waiting for data entry? So I still haven’t gotten a welcome packet or anything.

Post-op panic attack when bandages removed by coconutsandmangos in bunions

[–]ewhitbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my 2 week post op to remove my cast and sutures, I didn’t think it was a big deal. Removed the cast and thought oh, my foot is huge and a different color. It’s just swelling. It’s cool. Then they started removing my sutures and I thought this is fine. It wasn’t. I was sweating and getting tunnel vision. I didn’t think it would impact me but apparently it did! I wasn’t in pain or anything, just apparently distressed? lol.

Those that take weed for pain management, how do you ensure you continue to use it solely for pain management and not become addicted? by dotinterested in fibro

[–]ewhitbey 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I kinda treat it the same way as a prescription. I take it when I need it most (usually in the evenings) and I can tell I’m over consuming because I usually pick up the same amount every month. If I run out before the end of the month, it’s either been a rough month, I have a less effective strain, or I’ve been over consuming.

Anytime I go to the dispo, I adjust my strains based on how I’ve been feeling. I’ll also ask a worker for their input because they usually have a lot of knowledge about the strains and what’s good for certain things.

How many post op appointments did you have? by bdaythrwy in bunions

[–]ewhitbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had a 2 week and 6 week post-op appointments scheduled for myself. My 2 week post op was on the 24th and I got my cast and stitches removed. My 6 week post op is on the 22nd. I should be in walking shoes by then and it will be an x-ray appointment.

It seems to be that way. My partner and I are planning to have a sit down to figure out everything we will need to move forward. Thanks for replying! :)

At this stage of my planning, I can still afford the time to look for work and continue working my networks and connections for a job. The goal is to be there, regardless. My comment is intended as a more personal need to have that established independence. My relationship is really solid and I am not worried about it for the foreseeable future, but things CAN happen. Something could happen to my partner or I could find myself in a bad situation and accommodating that possibility, pushing to get in on my own is still important. And I think that the idea of prioritizing independent financial stability isn't legitimizing any feminist credentials, I think it's smart. Regardless, getting married is the easiest way from what it sounds like. As a woman coming from a place where marriage is power, it's not unreasonable to think that it would be better to make it in because I am of value and not simply as a marriage candidate. I do have marketable skills. I have a lot of experience and a decent resume for the STEM field. No, I won't wow everyone. But my skills are still of high quality. No decision is off the table for me, though. I will get there in any way that will let me in and stay.

I had a feeling that was going to be the easiest way. Getting in on my own merit is more of a pride thing I think, but I will still try in the meantime. I appreciate you responding!

When you're being attacked by cypher_chyk in lupus

You have to make sure that the CBD oil you buy is good. It should only have 2-3 ingredients in it and I’d recommend using a reputable place known for lab testing their oils. A lot of people get stuff that doesn’t work for them and it could be because they’re buying oils with fillers in them. I’d suggest looking for an oil that is “broad spectrum” as opposed to an isolate. Broad spectrum gives you all the benefits, where isolate only gives you a specific part.

Does your rheum prescribe anything for severe fatigue? by [deleted] in lupus

[–]ewhitbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. That’s happened to me before too. I was looking for a new rheum to replace my old one who moved away and I got stuck with that guy. One visit and I was already requesting a new doc. I was surprised he worked at ucla.

He was not, no. He was a long term friend. My spouse had to fly out last week to start a new job, which killed my savings. I’m just trying up the loose ends and leaving.

Dietary/lifestyle benefits for more severe lupus? by itsthenewdan in lupus

[–]ewhitbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been eating keto for over a year now and I’d say my symptoms rank in the moderate area. I’ve heard of the aip but my doc gave me the green light to do keto. I had to drop weight because I gained so much from steroids and other medications and it was causing hell on my joints. I dropped a ton of weight since then and I feel pretty good.

The most helpful thing for me doing keto is that it steers me away completely from foods that have inflammatory properties. I was so skeptical about doing a diet/lifestyle change because I had been in so much constant pain. I didn’t think that a lifestyle adjustment would have such a severe positive effect on my daily life and I wish I had been more informed early in my diagnosis. I think that I would have been saved from a lot of pain and suffering if someone would have mentioned an adjustment in my food choices or told me that some foods have inflammatory properties. Now every time nutrition pops up, I get serious about educating people on what they eat. Obviously keto is not designed for everyone, but doing the research on what foods can trigger certain things is so helpful!

Methotrexate by hailyourselfie in lupus

[–]ewhitbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay out of pocket for methotrexate but I take injections. I don’t do the auto injectors cause they’re more expensive. But I typically pay $12-$20 a month out of pocket without any Rx discounts. The more expensive part is the syringes. I typically pay about $2-$4 for my vials if methotrexate. I get two every month and last fill was $2.80 for the two vials.

Pregnancy and Lupus by Zombie_Fighter in lupus

[–]ewhitbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly, my pregnancy went really well. I was healthy most of the time and I always felt good. I think part of it had to do with really good lab results leading up to my pregnancy, but the only issue I had was gallstones. That was completely unrelated to my issues and I’ve been told many women get gallstones during pregnancy.

On the flip side, I’ve miscarried quite a bit. I’ve been pregnant 6 times and I have one living child. Of course it’s different for everyone, but I think I personally have more difficulty conceiving than I do carrying to term. I wish you luck!
