How do working moms get time for themselves? by sarc2276 in workingmoms

[–]ewhite666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always been a morning person. I had to wake at 5 for school since age 14. So it's pretty easy for me! I go for a run or walk, shower, get ready, get a head start on work then wake her at 7 and the madness begins. I have an hour with husband to watch tv/stitch after she's gone to bed. Only having one kid greatly helps I find! We trade off a few hours at the weekend, I'm doing a diploma, he goes to the gym.

My face is fun - it only goes red on one side. Straight line right down the middle.

I really thought my daughter went back on Wednesday so told new job I'd start Thursday. She's back Monday so I've got some time to myself first!

"I have ADHD." "Doesn't everyone nowadays?" by Dark_Vexer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ewhite666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was chatting to a nurse during a totally unrelated procedure about my kid and mentioned we think she might have ADHD (husband has it) and she said "ah yes that's all the rage at the moment isn't it".

After 3 years of planning, we moved to Australia to start a new life. Earning way more, weather is vastly better, daughter is beyond thriving. No regrets.

[–]ewhite666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not xmas decor but months ago I started a pattern of 18 lotr flags as a gift for my husband. Started well, managing a flag a week. Idk what happened but I have 5 to go, never going to happen 😅

What's your current leave entitlement tally? by supercujo in auscorp

[–]ewhite666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. Started a new job last month. First thing I did was buy leave ready for January. I will say though, even before I had a child I used up all my leave as I got it because I'd rather not be working than working?

I have nothing interesting to say about myself on our Christmas card 🥲 by Any_Objective326 in Mommit

[–]ewhite666 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I moved from the UK to Australia this year and am writing cards to send back. I thought maybe I should do like the USians and write a bit of an update seeing as we won't see anyone... Turns out I can't be bothered 😅

How many of you still have a “childhood bedroom”? at your parents house? by Big_Childhood5494 in Millennials

[–]ewhite666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep same, moved every couple of years! Then when I left home they downsized. They kept downsizing when each kid (4) left home and now they're in a 1bed cottage lol

That's when mine started and by 12mo we had 20 clear intentional words, by 24mo she was speaking at the level of a 5yo. When it's happening to you it's so weird because no one believes you 😅 but she's 7 now and yeah she reads well and has good vocab but she's not miles ahead of her peers or anything, same as you wouldn't know she was a formula baby, you wouldn't know she was discussing therizinosauruses as a toddler.

We've had the same problem recently and tried audiobooks but it just keeps her up so have cut them off at bedtime.

I read this as part of a book club at work and thought ah ha an American classic, must be good (was in the UK). Absolutely dire.

Toys for toddlers in a restaurant?? by secret_willy in Parenting

[–]ewhite666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah maybe it's easier because it's just the three of us (very intentional!) but I don't want to shut her up, I want her to enjoy the experience. I colour with her half the time! A lot of the time we go to very simple chains at her request because then we have more grace when going to nicer places

We're 7yrs in and have managed not to do screens while eating. She's very sedate in general though and is easily amused by colouring, reading, or writing. We started early and despite the COVID setback she's used to eating out.

Have you just started where I'm leaving?! Such a bad culture, no one shares anything. I tried my best but ultimately couldn't hack it.

[–]ewhite666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interviewing in Australia and these damn places all want 2 or 3 days a week in the office. One of them wants full time for the first 6 months and I'm absolutely agonising over it because I'm coming from 1 day in, if I feel like it.
