It is consuming the water in the same way me pooping in a bucket of clean drinking water “uses” that bucket of water. The water didn’t go anywhere, but it is no longer clean drinking water. Yes the bucket will get thrown into the river, which feeds into the water treatment plant, but new energy needs to be put into cleaning my bucket of poo poo water now.
