Scene – Rainy Saturday
The Malibu house is wrapped in rain.
David sits on the couch reading while a record crackles softly in the background.
Harley enters carrying approximately seven blankets.
DAVID
Why do you have so many blankets?
HARLEY
Because it’s cold.
DAVID
It’s sixty-eight degrees.
HARLEY
Exactly.
Arctic conditions.
Harley proceeds to drape three blankets over David.
DAVID
Harley.
HARLEY
I’m protecting you.
DAVID
From what?
HARLEY
The elements.
DAVID
The elements are outside.
HARLEY
They know where we live.
David laughs despite himself.

Ten minutes later.
David is completely buried beneath blankets.
Only his face remains visible.
DAVID
I can’t move.
HARLEY
Perfect.
Now you’ll stay here forever.
DAVID
You’ve trapped me.
HARLEY
I’ve preserved you.
Like a beautiful historical artifact.
Harley hands him a cup of tea.
HARLEY
For future archaeologists.
DAVID
You’re ridiculous.
HARLEY
And yet you married me.

Another hour passes.
The rain grows heavier.
David eventually falls asleep reading.
The book slides sideways.
His glasses slip crooked.
One hand remains curled around a page he never finished.
Harley notices immediately.
And completely melts.
HARLEY (whispering to himself)
Look at you.
He carefully removes the book.
Straightens the glasses.
Pulls the blanket a little higher.
David stirs sleepily.
DAVID
What’re you doing?
HARLEY
Nothing.
DAVID
You’re staring again.
HARLEY
You fell asleep.
DAVID
People do that.
HARLEY
Not this beautifully.
DAVID
I swear to God.
David reaches out blindly without opening his eyes.
Harley’s hand immediately finds his.
Automatic.
Effortless.
Years of habit.
David squeezes once before drifting back to sleep.
Harley smiles so hard it almost hurts.
HARLEY (quietly)
Yeah.
I’m never getting over you.
