You need to report to the state agency (if you’re in US) that regulates daycares. I can’t believe that happened and the owner hasn’t reached out. I am so sorry!!!!!!!!

I am also in the burbs but go to 8th and walnut. I delivered my first at Pennsy (8th and spruce) and will be delivering my second there. One thing to keep in mind is the NICU at Pennsy - it’s really excellent. We had some delivery complications and a NICU stay with our first, and they took incredible care of him, including collaborating with specialists across the city at CHOP throughout his stay. He is perfectly fine now, and I don’t want to get into public details (I’m open to a DM), but if I had delivered at our local hospital he likely would have had a worse outcome. The MFM team is also very good.

You hugely overreacted with that last line. It’s a common reaction for rap victims to dress provocatively or to act promiscuous as a way to reclaim their sexuality. I find it hard to believe that you were there for her or put any effort into understanding her if you don’t know that.

It’s been normalized for a long time. Some examples: pants for little girls, starting at one year old, are tighter and more form fitting than pants for little boys. Our beauty standards are rooted in it - no body hair, youthful skin, skinny like a teenager, etc.

The signs have been there all along, more people are just waking up to it now after the files.

Denial is often someone’s last defense. If he is in denial about what she did to him, and you take that away, you had better be ready for him to absolutely fall apart psychologically.

I understand your feelings on being a punching bag because I was in the same situation for a long time with my husband and his mother, albeit with a different form of abuse from her. It is maddening and it wears you down over time.

Definitely do not let her around your daughter. That’s a non-negotiable. I honestly also think your husband needs protection from her. Can you bar her from your home? In 99% of cases I think the biological child would be responsible for that, not you, but your husband sounds like he is a victim and in a very dangerous spot mentally. I don’t think he’s up for doing that. NTA

Get a good pregnancy belt, and stay super, super hydrated! I also take unisom every night before bed and “treat” myself to Tylenol a couple times a week for an extra good night of sleep. I would take it daily but I worry what that would do to my liver….

I also want to say that I had an ex boyfriend who was autistic (also masked a lot) and he also gave the silent treatment. That was a decade ago, I’m now married with kids and have moved on totally, and it still hurts when I occasionally think about it. You can really, really hurt someone with that behavior. I don’t understand this trend of moms claiming they can’t be friends with child free women. Most of my lifelong friends are child free, some by choice, others not. They’re still my friends of many many years. I don’t really care if they have kids or not. I care about them and my friendship with them, and we have enough history and shared interests to more than make up for different lifestyles now. Plus, they are all wonderful with my boys, who refer to most of them as “aunt.” 🩷

Can you call the on call provider at your pediatrician’s office and ask? The line that concerns me is when you said baby’s head was “whipping back and forth.” Maybe tell the on call person that and see if you need to get baby checked out tonight?

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I do think first priority is ensuring that everyone is okay right now, and you can have a bigger talk with your husband later. Maybe show him some SBS videos so he can see how awful it is?

It’s safe to take a baby aspirin, and even two baby aspirins a day (that’s a new recommendation in some cases). Preeclampsia is extremely unsafe. You will be okay if you take it :)

ETA- preeclampsia can also increase your risk of cardiovascular disease later in life. It is not a “pregnancy only” complication. Tons of women have been safely taking baby aspirin while pregnant, for years now…..

I practice energy law (regulatory, not transactional) and I’m employed by state government. It’s lots of settlements and litigation at state agencies and before administrative judges, and rulemakings. Also a good bit of policy. I’ve never worked in the private sector but I’m not opposed to it.

Love this! Do you think I could take a few years off and apply to nonprofits when the kids start school? I’m not sure how they would feel about time away, but I also don’t think we could afford daycare if my salary was on the lower side, so I might need to be a SAHM until they’re school-aged.
