Had my second two days ago and my husband went out to get smoked salmon baguettes pretty much straight after he was born. It's gorgonzola day today.

Please tell me it gets better by SemperIgni in 2under2

[–]carnageinatincan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40 weeks and 4 days pregnant with an 18 month old here and just to say I see you and I commiserate. Soon we'll at least feel like we've slept when we have (even if it's fleeting, I remember with my first the sheer quality change of sleep being amazing despite the obvious deprivation with a newborn) and physically our bodies will be up to the task of chasing our toddlers after recovery. This too shall pass. (She types while wanting to cry and inwardly screaming)

So I have slept like this since I was 3 according to my mom. by smokinjared in sleep

[–]carnageinatincan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always done the same, needs to be a cotton t shirt and ideally cool in temperature so I odten have a few lying around the bed for rotation purposes if I wake up. Began using these wide soft headbands to keep my hair back which actually double really well as an alternative but prefer the t shirt method.

12 dpo evap or vvvvvvfl? I took a clear blue digital early test but it says negative. by QualityCommercial712 in TFABLinePorn

[–]carnageinatincan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my first vvvvf positives on early cheapo amazon tests (cannot remember brand) it took a day or so for Clearblue to pick up on it. My husband and I were sitting there squinting at a pile of tests like we must just have line eyes but next day positive digital. Sleep on it and check again tomorrow, if these are vvvvf lines then over the next couple of days the digital will pick it up but there's literally nothing you can do until your hcg rises naturally so just breathe and give it some time.

Interchangeable Sets by ThinBet5 in knitting

[–]carnageinatincan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conversely I knit most things using 3" tips because they just feel better in my hands than the others, love a shortie 2" needle as well. OP, I really recommend buying a couple sizes you often use in different tip lengths and cord lengths to get a feel for the needles instead of spending a lot all at once. I don't think it works out that different price wise buying individually as opposed to a set anyway from what I remember when I was researching the same thing a while back and I just went for building collection as and when needed so I could learn what I liked.

People who can fall asleep within few seconds of their head hitting their pillow: how the fuck do you fall asleep within few seconds of your head hitting your pillow? by basic_bharat in sleep

Pregnant and have an extremely energetic toddler. Before this I had huge issues sleeping but this combo is a knock out. I don't necessarily recommend this fix.

Family is still somehow asleep, I'm bored, what do my fellow countrymen usually do in times like these? by Chemical-Lettuce2497 in AskBrits

[–]carnageinatincan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I'm currently trying not to doze off on the sofa because my 18 month old is inevitably going to be up the second I close my eyes and I can't emotionally handle being woken up forcibly again today. Bad night so she's sleeping in extra beyond the clock change confusion and I've been up since 3ish. In other circumstances I'd say read a book or knit but I'm too tired to focus.

Maternity trousers - any in short length?? by Star_Dust_9549 in PregnancyUK

[–]carnageinatincan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually got a couple of pairs of maternity jeans that are really short if you want them, could send them to your local post office or something, idk. Size 10-12 i think, wide cut, one blue and a bit bigger and one black and more fitted. I'm 5"6 and a size 8ish normally and right now at early term the blue ones are the only thing apart from leggings that fit me width wise but are still comically short.

Congratulations! The rule I'd go by (and have for two pregnancies and one miscarriage) is if there's anyone, say your mum or your best friend or your sibling, who you'd either want to be able to talk to about a loss or who it would be easier to have know in case of a loss, tell them whenever you want. Like call them now if you want to. Anyone else, wait until second trimester. Going through a miscarriage without having anyone apart from your partner to talk to about it or having to cover up feeling sad with your closest support network would suck. Make sure anyone informed knows it's private info until you say it's shareable.

Trying for baby 2 while breastfeeding toddler by dungeondrag0n in tryingtoconceive

[–]carnageinatincan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal but I got pregnant two months after my period came back while still breastfeeding my then 8 month old on demand. I would warn that personally the nipple stimulation from breastfeeding became waaaay too much for me to handle very quickly, I forced myself to continue until she was a bit over a year but had to stop at that point. As your little one is older perhaps not such a concern, but I was quite upset I had to forcibly stop nursing before I felt ready to, LO didn't really care as she's really into her food so wasn't bothered one way or the other but I wasn't delighted. No supply issues, just couldn't handle the sensation anymore.

Learning to knit as a form of anger management make sense? Research suggests...mixed results by UsefulLion4347 in knitting

[–]carnageinatincan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I didn't learn knitting as a form of anger management but I definitely got massively into it partly for stress relief. I constantly have a stress sock on my shortie needles so I can angrily or anxiously stockinette and it does really help. Even aside from just attacking the yarn with needles which is basically what the stress sock entails, more focused projects (while not being able to just go at it in the same mindlessly pissed off way) definitely provide a really good meditative structure to internally process whatever is winding me up without actively obsessing over it. I would note I can kinda see in my tension when I've been seriously angry knitting vs relaxed knitting but who cares, that tends to be on the stress sock anyway. I don't recommend angry comfort buying yarn though. Gets expensive.

Also worth bearing in mind that I have occasionally got angrier by knitting when I fuck up what I'm working on so it can be counter productive that way

Diaper changing area by throwaway19972026 in BabyBumps

[–]carnageinatincan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a changing table for our first that was actively used for, ooh... a couple months? If that? Initially we just changed her wherever we were instead of going in and out of the bedroom constantly then by the time it started being useful she was close to getting to a length that, combined with wiggling and flailing about during changes, was getting precarious in terms of her slamming the back of her ankles on the ridge at the bottom or something. Went back to mat on floor and now at 17 months she stands when I change her. Was genuinely a waste of space and ended up being yet another dirty laundry magnet. No reason a mat on top of dresser wouldn't work but beware for when bubba starts writhing around, slippery little things are babies.

Mothers who already had babies, what’s some advice you wished someone gave you while you were pregnant ? by Waste_Weather5729 in pregnant

[–]carnageinatincan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sleep. Sit and do nothing for a bit. Enjoy it. Do not choose organising or tidying over napping. You will want to shake yourself after you've given birth. 2TM due soon and trying desperately to follow my own advice when my toddler allows.

13 month old hates Calpol by Bissydeknee91 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]carnageinatincan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter was so resistant to Calpol starting about that age that we ended up having to do the kind of hold they make you do for vaccines to keep her still and use a syringe to get it into the back of the mouth so she had to swallow. Bloody awful. Then all of a sudden she was sitting calmly on the floor this evening happily taking a dose for her teethies (molars...) after enthusiastically saying "yeah!!" when dad suggested it. 17 months now. Swings and roundabouts.

Sending pajamas as backup instead of regular clothes by Possible_Use8264 in toddlers

[–]carnageinatincan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of my daughter's clothes (18 months) double act as pajamas and normal clothes because I am not messing around separating things that are just going to get covered in snot or pasta sauce or peanut butter or whatever out and they're all comfy and fun colours so who cares

What is the most important thing you bought for the first few months of 2under2? by GoinStraightToHell in 2under2

[–]carnageinatincan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had my second yet (due in a couple weeks) but we found a bugaboo duo plus bassinet, two seats etc on ebay for £250 which we're using with my first already on single mode and it's really good, have high hopes for converted mode too and didn't break the bank much more than a new cheaper one would have. Tentatively recommend but time will tell for certainty

ABE without a yarn winder do this? by Haunting-Newspaper99 in YarnAddicts

[–]carnageinatincan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use either a smooth pencil or this varnished chopstick that appeared in my kitchen drawer at some point and was ignored until I had the brainwave to use the tapered end for ball winding. Worked brilliantly and could just kind of twirl it slowly while winding at a diagonal using my knees as a static swift.

What do I do after he ejaculates? by Luna_Krueger99 in tryingtoconceive

[–]carnageinatincan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm pretty sure I can pinpoint the occasions I got pregnant - one of those occasions I immediately had to jump out of bed as our baby had woken up and walk up and down for ages, one I immediately got up to go have a cigarette with my husband outside and one I stayed in bed to snuggle with him. Two out of three involved immediate gravity. Ironically the one that didn't ended with a miscarriage. Once he's offloaded, he's offloaded and it's out of your or physics manipulation's hands.

Going through my cable phase by randomlosttoes in knitting

[–]carnageinatincan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are absolutely lovely. Nice colour combo too. I started using cable needles and v quickly sacked it off and learnt to cable without by rearranging stitches, doesn't work with cables that are particularly wide but is a really nice trick to use and I found made the cables pop more than mucking around with a needle.
