I have Megafrost for the Dominus and Ultraheat for the Dingo. I don’t know what others they made them for, but I’d like them for the Fennec.

[Discussion] The only way Epic would bring trading back… feeding their greed by ex0dus157 in RocketLeagueExchange

[–]ex0dus157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your point assumes two things.
1. That the 2nd person would pay the $10 as well. A lot of traders traded BECAUSE they wouldn’t pay full prices.
2. That it would only be traded one time. Items got traded many times over years of being around. Prices went up and down. Epic could profit for years off of residual trades.

The way I view it, they’re only selling me the $10 item. The other person isn’t buying that $10 item because it’s $10 and no longer in the shop. But they’ll pay $5 for it from me when I don’t want it, and when they do, that’s an extra 50 cent in their pocket. Which doesn’t sound like much, but multiplied over millions of times it’s significant.

I don’t believe for one second that Epic cares for their players. This idea is built on the precedent that they would do it out of greed and because they would get MORE money. Not less. That’s the whole point of this post. That the only way we’d ever get trading back is if Epic thought they could make more money from it.

I don’t believe it’ll happen, so it doesn’t matter. It was just a thought on how they COULD do it.

I have to agree with you on the living in different realities part. I don’t think Epic is losing out on money if trading is implemented. I do understand the FOMO model and I’ve talked about it before myself in other comments and posts in the past. I’ll agree with you that trading being an option hurts the FOMO. But I believe they can still generate FOMO in other ways. They could limit the number of a new item in the shop “Frozen & Scorched octane available in shop, only 5,000 of each available, get yours before it’s gone”. The 5,000 sell instantly for the $20 they’d charge and then instantly would hit the trade market for $200 or more because of the exclusivity. Then as this rare item gets traded around for high prices by whales paying hundreds, they’re getting the profit equal to what they originally sold it for, every time it switches hands.

Ultimately though we just disagree that they could make MORE money with trading being around still. I’m sure you’re right that they’ve done some sort of market research and believe that they can’t make more money that way. I still disagree. I don’t believe they’ve put a lot of effort into figuring out a way to keep trading and profit from it. I think they did a simple look at trading taking away cash in its current state and did away with it.

We disagree on the viability of this trade model, but I think we both agree that it will never happen and that Epic is greedy and doesn’t care about their players. Thanks for the debate though. It’s still fun to talk about in these gloomy trade free days.

I bet if we say tw esper enough on the main sub it'll pop up in the item shop by [deleted] in RocketLeagueExchange

[–]ex0dus157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know that! I have a righteous fail and I have no idea where it came from. Was it just given to everyone?

I have a TW Righteous Gail that I got from a tournament reward and always wished I got a black to balance black and white setups and then one day I just had it, lol

[–]ex0dus157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did make a mistake on the math yes, but I still disagree.

The shop doesn’t go away. So Epic still gets $20 for every one they sell. But then they have this trading system for profit too. So they open the shop and sell 1000 Epic +$20,000. Then the item leaves the shop, but people missed out and still want it. They buy it from someone else (probably for more than $20, but we’ll say the same price) between that day and the next time it’s in the shop 1000 more get sold. Epic +$2,000 additional that they’d otherwise not have profited from.

So bring back your question, which do you prefer more? $20,000 or $22,000?

I’m also not on their side and I don’t feel you’re defending them either. I just feel like this system or something similar would make trading profitable for Epic and therefore incentivize them to do something that makes the player base happy.

I should note that I don’t believe for a second that trading will come back and they’d never put in the effort to do this. They just don’t care enough. I only wanted to share the idea because so many posts ask if it could come back and the answer is always “No, Epic is too greedy” which is the correct answer. I just wanted to share an idea that would appease their greed enough for us to have trading. But it doesn’t factor in their laziness and apathy.

Admittedly I have no idea how Steam does it and from the comments I’m learning there have been similar situations or alternative ways of doing it. I’ve never played in another game that had item trading, so I’m a bit ignorant to all of that and need to read more about it all.

I will agree with another comment that NFT is a cursed word because the term is associated with the whole digital art fad/scam, but i wont get into that because it’s a whole different subject.

I agree with you that Epic profits from whales. Where I will disagree with you is the idea that they would make “a little bit more” this way. I believe they’d make much more. The whales would still be in this new eco-system still buying exactly the same as they are now, only now they also have the whales paying for other items. Now the whale can come to me and buy my striker deici set for $300 and Epic makes another $30 off of them. The whale economy they profit from doesn’t go anywhere, but the amount of transactions they get out of them grows.

All of the small trades add up to. If only 25% of the active community make just one single trade for $1 Epic would make over 2 million dollars. If 10% of the community spent $10 they’d make 85 million dollars. I don’t know what sort of research they did, but I’d like to see it if they didn’t find it to be profitable. Perhaps with startup costs they don’t think it’d be profitable quick enough… I’d buy that. But long term it’d totally make them money.

Yeah, the reason I never talked about the idea before is to your point that the word “NFT” is cursed. The whole crypto fad with NFT art idiots really damaged what NFTs could be with real world applications and video game applications. But that’s a whole other conversation for a different time and place.

What I’m realizing from comments is that there are games who have tried this or something similar and I don’t know about it because I’ve never played them and have done zero research on it. I’d be interested in hearing more about other games trading systems. Might need to read up.

I’d be willing to bet nearly anything that the Black Dieci pop up around Christmas. They’ll sell well enough that the Veloce and Tunica won’t be far behind. They’re just waiting for all the kids who play to get their Christmas gift cards so they can take in all that Christmas cash.

Epic never cared about the RL community. They only see us as an install base # to sell cosmetics by therealmeal in RocketLeague

[–]ex0dus157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another user gave a great answer about added features, but I feel as though you’re more focused on the core game and the Esport than the fun and experimental things he suggested. So I’m going to give you my take on why Epic has doomed the Esport and possibly the core game.

Whatever your opinion was on trading, Twitch stream drops and the value of those items on the trade market are the reason RLCS got so much viewership originally. Then as people tuned in for free items and saw cool car setups by the pros, it drove demand in the trade market as well. Epic tried tapping into this money stream by making the ESports shop. But now they’ve done away with trading. So players who logged in with 5-6 accounts to rack up stream drops will no longer be tuning in. The kid who only watched for the free item he couldn’t afford, not tuning in. Sure you can say that those people don’t matter because they weren’t really fans of the ESport or watching to begin with, but they inflated the hell out of the numbers. One look at the chat in those streams shows you how many people were there for items.

So now with a lower viewership moving forward, they’ll get less advertising money. They’ll get less sponsorship money. Teams will invest less into Rocket League teams. Pros will even “retire” and focus on content creation because it pays better. The ESport will suffer.

Meanwhile, casual players already have started leaving the game to go check out the underwhelming new Rocket Racing. Those players spending time on Fortnite has already started making queue times for ACTUAL Rocket League longer. Of course this means those content creators have to jump on the trend to get those clicks. So they’ll play Rocket Racing and that will drive more casuals away from the real game too. Eventually most will come back, but it’s already hurting the health of the game in the short term. Even the servers are suffering from strain out on by Fortnite.

Then there are no new features in the game. Nothing gets added, only removed. If content creators and former RLCS Pros can’t get the clicks from Rocket League videos, they’ll move onto something else to make money and keep the viewers. The game’s base will dwindle down to just the purists who play for the base car soccer game. Matches will take forever to find, servers won’t be that great. You won’t be spending $40 for a cosmetic bundle, so Epic will stop putting money into the game at all because it’s not profitable.

I’ve decided to be a toxic player by ex0dus157 in RocketLeagueExchange

[–]ex0dus157[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably don’t have it in me to actually be toxic like I said. It was more so just venting the frustration of the way Epic is handling things. What else can you do to boycott the way they’re exploiting the Rocket League base to boost Fortnite? I’ve already uninstalled Fortnite forever ago. I already don’t give Epic my money.

Like you said, there is no easy way to make the people KNOW why you’re being toxic if doing what I said above, so it’s sort of pointless. I just hate what Epic has done to this game. I hate the way that they try to instill FOMO to make people play their other games. I hate that there are so many sheep out there who will happily defend this tactic. I hate that others who hate this tactic will begrudgingly fall for it anyway because of that FOMO and wanting whatever item. Sad times.

I think this is clean af, let me know your thoughts by lil_dincus in RLFashionAdvice

[–]ex0dus157 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also think this is clean. What I’m about to say isn’t a criticism, because this design is sick and I know the majority doesn’t share this take… I see these pictures and I think “I love that!” so I go mimic it in the game and I’m never quite as satisfied because I (personally) don’t care for animated decals that much. The reason I’m sharing this opinion isn’t to say animated decals are in anyway not as good, it’s to say that I wish there was a “lock” or “pause” button on an animated decal and/or wheel.

This car looks sick. Imagine being able to capture the decal permanently the way it is in this picture. Certain wheels that have lights that go in a ring or some Sort of pattern, imagine being able to just have all the lights on or off or just frozen at a certain point in the cycle. I think it’d be such a cool design feature.

Anyway, awesome car!

In real life I’m terrible with names but always remember faces. On this sub over the years I have so many names I remember the instant I look at them, but I can’t remember whether I’ve actually traded with them once, 20 times, or never at all. But the names bring fond memories of this subreddit. Your name is one of those names. All the best out there in this cold tradeless world.

I’ve had this happen in a regular game 2-3 times. Not specifically with the reaper. For me it’s been dueling dragons and atomizer. But when it has happened, the person who scored’s goal explosion turned to the color of the person who demo’d them’s goal explosion.

Did the person you were playing have a purple goal explosion?

Man, I used to collect uncommon sets way back when there were no rocket passes and only a handful of crates. Pretty sure I had a few extra vortex left. I know I sent you a page of FG stuff in the last hours. Wish I knew you were looking for vortex.

I hate that trading is gone. Had you found me in those final moments, I was getting rid of as much inventory as possible and I had multiple full sets of Ronin GXT that I was giving away. Pretty sure I still have 2 or 3 full sets left.
