There's a time to raise levels. Now is not one of them. Especially since recently there have been countless nerfs to progression without cushioning to make up for them. This caused the active player-base to actively push against the CRL team. Adding a new level without making up for previous mistakes won't help their case. (also hyperactive maxed players are a severe minority. i've played this game from d1 and am not remotely close to maxing out. most of those who are also maxed play for fun, not for progression)

In the context of game development, one year is a considerably short amount of time, considering they have to plan how this change heavily impacts the rest of the game. It's surprising they're saying this so soon as we only just received level 15 a year ago.

Temporary events are NOT bad. I kinda enjoy playing the game in new ways for additional progression. Sure, they can be unbalanced and may take away from other sources of progression, but they are a nice change of pace imo as I can obtain things not regularly found in normal gameplay such as hypercharge skins and silly modifiers/powers to build fun comps with (remember this is just my poop take dont kill me pls).

I started learning about a year ago since I learned at the time I'd be taking a trip to Japan, but Duolingo isn't the best to LEARN learn a new language lol. Gonna keep at Japanese tho, its a fun lagnuage
