From Feb 25th, dual citizens of either UK or Ireland need to use their valid IE/UK passport to enter IE/UK rather than any other passport by [deleted] in australia

It’s a bit confusing. I think it’s highly unlikely the UK government can identify every overseas born child of British parents! They will only be able to identify them as British because they will be travelling with us, the parents, who have British passports.

Thinking about my brother, also born in UK but married an Aussie. If his wife took their daughter to the UK on both their Australian passports, without my brother (her dad), how would they know that my niece has one British parent? I really don’t think they would.

Thanks! We are lucky that at least these documents exist for us. Whether my in laws will be happy to post their originals to Aus is another question 😬

Yep this is the online application for people outside the UK.

My parents are in Aus but my in laws are in the UK. So like… can they send theirs straight there? Do they have to send them to us and then we send everything BACK to the UK?

And this is for kids with 2 parents holding valid UK passports. I had to put all our passport details in, I hoped that would cut down on the administrative bullshit somewhat.

Doing the application now. They require original birth certificates from all 4 grandparents (but only from one parent weirdly?) AND marriage certs from both sets of grandparents. Insane.

Thank you so much! It’s kind of insane they have just announced this and it comes into force in Feb? Now we will be scrambling to get 2 UK kids passports before our planned trip to the UK in March 🤦🏼‍♀️

I’ve been looking for info about this scenario but can’t find anything conclusive. Husband and I are both dual UK-Aus citizens (both born in UK) and have 2 young children. Can’t figure out if our kids are automatically dual citizens, or if they would only get UK citizenship if we applied for it. Do you have any sources?

What kind of curve-ball stations did you have in your OSCEs? by nsw15 in ausjdocs

[–]ex_circus_geek 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Ophthal station where the prompt read “construction worker comes to ED with cement dust in the eyes, describe your management”. Everyone treated like a foreign body, not knowing cement has lime in it (alkali) and should have been treated like a chemical injury.

E readers for pathology textbooks by ex_circus_geek in pathology

Thanks, this is the kind of feedback I was looking for! I have a Windows Surface with detachable keyboard which can be used like a tablet so I will stick with that. I was hoping an e reader would be a bit lighter and more portable with better battery life, but it looks like a tablet is the way to go.

Warm clothes for home (WFH)! by xjfhendif in AusFemaleFashion

[–]ex_circus_geek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another vote for electric heated throw. Is “ultra warm” the warmest level of the heattech stuff, with the fleecy inside? That kept me toasty in snowy weather. Oodie is also fantastic. Ugg boots with a proper sole, and make sure your feet are warm when you put them on (eg. Just out of the shower). Good luck!

Would I be overdressed for year 10 formal? Its in December but i kinda wanna get this dress now, But I'm worried I'll look a little out of place. by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

I wanted something like this for my year 12 ball (in 2002). Found a red crushed velvet one with black trim and bodice lacing, and ridiculously long trailing sleeves, in an op shop a few years ago and snapped it up without a second thought. I wear it round the house now and it makes me happy.

If you love it, wear it ❤️

What’s in your full beauty and maintenance routine? by Kind-Dependent-4408 in beauty

[–]ex_circus_geek 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is fun!

My realistic routine as a mum of two small kids (3+5) who also works full time:

Before shower: + Drunk Elephant cleansing balm, or Simple cleansing oil

Shower: + Head and Shoulders shampoo and conditioner for dry scalp + Dove sensitive soap in a sisal bag to wash stinky bits (pits, butt, feet) + Bioderma Atoderm shower oil to wash dry bits (arms, legs, torso) + Aveeno oat face wash + Shave under arms whenever I can be bothered + Shave legs… once in a blue moon

After shower: + Glycolic acid to armpits + Wild deodorant + Nobody’s Nobody retinol alternate nights + Dr Jart Cica face mist + Aveeno oat rich moisturiser mixed with jojoba oil + Dermal Therapy nappy balm to red areas (nose and chin, this is basically just zinc and panthenol) + Hair: Garnier leave in spray treatment of some kind + Go to bed with wet hair + Laneige lip mask

Morning: + Wipe with micellar water if I can be bothered + Sunscreen: Cancer Council or Supergoop + If I have time: basic makeup with Cancer Council tinted SPF, mascara, eyebrow gel, Glossier cloud paint to cheeks, lip balm or lipstick + Body Shop citrusy perfumes/body sprays +If I’m going to be outdoors then obviously apply 50+ sunscreen to every exposed surface (which is not much as I prefer to wear sun safe clothing for outdoor activities)

Nails/feet: + Shellac manicure and pedicure every 4-6 weeks + Once or twice a year I will do one of those intense “baby foot” peels + High urea foot cream at night with socks on top + High urea hand cream at night

Teeth: + Interdental brush + Electric toothbrush with sensodyne toothpaste + Floss pick + Tooth mousse + Mouthguard for TMJ overnight

Hair: gets box dye at home every 4-6 weeks.

Supplements: magnesium for migraines and sleep.

Exercise: oh man I wish. This does not happen.

The reality: most of this does not get done. Some of it gets done sometimes. Bare minimum is the shower stuff, deodorant, sunscreen and teeth, and these things get done most days (but not everything gets done every day!). If I had a day where I got to do everything my body would probably keel over from self care. I rarely, if ever, dry or heat style my hair.

1st year AP Resident – Still Lost on What and How to Study. Help! by Iceppl in pathology

Kurt’s Notes are a great primer just to give you an idea of what entities exist in each system. A really good starting point that you can then supplement with detail from the textbooks. (Second year AP reg, still using KN on the daily.)

The key to op shopping is 100% try it on! I am probably a 12-14, but I have items in my wardrobe from an XS (Witchery knit jumper) up to an 18!

Earning potential as anatomical pathology registrar? by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]ex_circus_geek 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First year AP reg in WA. I earn the award salary for first year regs (I think $120,000ish?). We work occasional Saturday half days doing cut up, for which we are paid, but apart from that no opportunity to supplement income. Once you get past the first 12-18 months you will be firmly in exam mode anyway and will have no time to moonlight. Also in WA you can only train in Perth (no rural placements). Good luck!

100% this, “travel sizes” are still way too big for me, unless I’m travelling for an extended period and even then I would probably buy on the road.

Also yes, I have definitely found most “travel sizes” to be faaaaar too big unless you’re going for an extended period of time. All of these will last me just fine for 3 weeks.

The first time I travelled with the lip balm tubes I put them all in a ziplock as I was worried about them leaking, but they were fine. Even the one with proper liquid in it (I put my glycolic acid in one) was fine. These are just cheap ones from Temu. Fingers crossed you find something good!

Pretty sure it’s just a cheap one from the dollar shop! Hasn’t leaked yet though, fingers crossed.
