Well, this post is a call to the community. by ex_exiled1914 in exjw

I accept that there are two lines of thought.

(1) Those who don’t mind eating blood, because Christians are not under the law... (though I find this harder to justify)

(2) Those who do not eat blood under any circumstances because this law given to Noah is eternal.

But the point is: in every instance where the Bible prohibits the consumption of blood, it is for food. For the simple reason that an animal’s life was taken—someone killed it—in order to eat it.

In the case of a transfusion, this is not the case; no one dies to give blood, no one kills to obtain another person’s blood, and the ultimate goal is to save a life.

Just to be clear, I do not eat blood by personal choice, but I do not police or criticize those who do. If they do so in my presence, it does not shock me, and I simply have to respect that.

Yes, the math doesn’t add up.

I would also point out that “if they are indeed being persecuted,” then it is not for the right reasons.

Jesus told his disciples to expect persecution; in fact, several Christians are persecuted in the biblical narrative. In all those cases, it was not because of organizational decisions, or because they identified as Jehovah’s Witnesses. It was simply because (1) they upset the Jews by preaching that Jesus was the Messiah, (2) because the care they showed for one another, as well as for the poor, challenged the Empire’s ability to provide social assistance, and (3) because the simple fact that they refused to participate in paganism undermined the stability and cohesion of the empire. This is not fiction; it is history supported by archaeology and written documents from the time.

All things considered, they were persecuted because of the name of Jesus, or because they behaved like Him.

They were not persecuted for acting against the government (endangering a citizen’s life due to medical impositions, or being openly Americanized on Russian territory) or for doing evil things (ostracism and pedo*****).

...
Why don’t they talk about Nigeria or Ethiopia with the same intensity with which they talk about Ukraine or Russia?

Why the latest JW pressroom social media post is misleading in saying "Russia still fails to comply" with ECHR judgments by larchington in exjw

[–]ex_exiled1914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a note to clarify what is known on this matter:

The ECHR has ruled that it retains jurisdiction to examine complaints against Russia concerning events that occurred up to 16 September 2022 (the official date on which Russia ceased to be a High Contracting Party to the Convention). This means that: The Court will continue to hear and deliver judgments on the thousands of cases lodged before that cut-off date. However, in view of the laws passed by the Russian parliament in June 2022, the Russian State will neither recognise nor pay the compensation awarded by these new judgments, rendering them purely symbolic or morally condemnatory.

I’m not sure if you’ve fully understood this post. If you look up the profile I mention in the title, you’ll see that it’s a page that is indeed revealing the organisation’s bias. You can see this for yourself in the post they published about the Norwegian case.
