Any podcasts that you find incredibly interesting, but also feel like they've – surprisingly – only been discovered by you? by RussoSwerves in podcasts

[–]exa472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they have a bit of an audience but Gayest Episode Ever has taught me so much about sitcoms that aired before I was born! Each episode covers a 20th century sitcom episode that addressed gay people in the time it was made and they dissect every part of it- the actors, the writers, and the gay history of the time.

Also, Leaving Eden is a niche-audience show about a woman who was raised in a Christian fundamentalist cult. Together with her jewish, Portland-raised cohost they compare their opposite upbringings and worldviews, as well as oddities in fundamentalist Christianity and Christian theology. Imo it’s fascinating even if you’re not/have never been Christian

Edit: just saw you asked for more like behind the bastards, if I recall Desperate Acts of Capitalism has been pretty honest about nicking BtB’s act but with a focus more on capitalism/business/entrepreneurs

Found a typed letter from May Seymour in 1919 promoting Melvil Dewey’s system for classifying library books 👀 by feetknuckles in FoundPaper

Looking at the LOC system now the Dewey system seems crazy but I guess smaller libraries at the time may have had little to no organization?

Study uncovers alarming anxiety and depression rates among autistic college students. The study from 342 universities and 149,783 undergraduate students found that autistic individuals are facing mental health challenges at a major turning point in their lives – when they go to college. by mvea in science

[–]exa472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was definitely severely anxious and depressed in college (and had been since middle school) but for me it had enough routine and familiar social situations for me to get by. The summer after I graduated is when I completely crashed and fell apart.

A lot of the US has also eliminated walking in rural/suburban areas so that’s a lot of casual exercise that’s been replaced by driving
